Watch island students decorate mid-autumn lanterns with their own hands

TPO - On the morning of October 6, the People's Committee of Can Gio Commune (HCMC) coordinated with local departments and agencies to organize the Mid-Autumn Festival at Can Thanh Primary School. The Mid-Autumn Lantern Decoration Contest is one of the annual activities coinciding with the Nghinh Ong Festival of Can Gio people, so it is highly anticipated by students.

Students from 7 primary and secondary schools in Can Gio commune participated in the Mid-Autumn Festival lantern decoration contest to celebrate the Can Gio Whale Festival 2025. In the evening of the same day, the students will parade together to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival in the middle of the Whale Festival.

This year, the children asked their teachers and parents to help them make the lantern frames to participate in the lantern decoration competition. From early morning, the school yard was bustling with laughter. Groups of students in blue and white uniforms sat around the large lantern frames that had been prepared in advance. Their main job was to decorate and show their creativity and ingenuity through every small detail.

After just over an hour, the simple bamboo frames were dressed in colorful "coats": some groups chose to draw Uncle Ho, others made Cuoi - Hang, or recreated flying dragons - bright moon, with many meaningful messages such as "Remembering Uncle Ho on Mid-Autumn Festival", "Full moon of childhood"...

Doan Nguyen Chi, class 8/5, Can Thanh Secondary School, shared: “Last year, our group made star lanterns. This year, we wanted to be different, so we made a moon embracing a star.”

In addition to the lantern decoration contest to celebrate the Can Gio Whale Festival, children enthusiastically participated in painting. The painting topics are wide, creating opportunities for talented painters to develop their abilities. Painting topics revolve around the homeland's sea and islands, Whale Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival - Children's Day - Reunion Day, traditional craft villages...
