For the past two days, at 9am, many young people have been lining up on the sidewalk of Ngo Duc Ke Street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, waiting to buy milk tea from a famous brand from Thailand. According to the shop staff, some customers have been waiting since 7am when the shop has not yet opened.
Despite the heat, dozens of people still lined up waiting for their turn to buy. It is known that on the first day of opening (June 9), the number of orders exceeded expectations by thousands of cups, so the store had to stop accepting customers from the previous afternoon.
"This is a very famous Thai milk tea chain, so as soon as I heard that there was a first store in Ho Chi Minh City, I had to try it right away," a customer shared.
The restaurant staff continuously offered drinks to people who were waiting in line.
Ms. Nhi ( Long An ) arrived at 7am. "I bought 30 cups of milk tea for my whole family, but each bill only allows a maximum of 8 cups, so I had to continue standing in line. I've been here for nearly an hour, and I expect to wait another 2 hours to buy enough and return home," she said.
The process of making milk tea is done the same way as in Thailand. The staff first brews the tea in a cloth strainer, then adds condensed milk, skimmed milk (liquid cream), and tea base and stirs well to create a cup of milk tea with the right taste.
"I went out recently this weekend so I stopped by to buy some for my friends too. The menu has nearly 40 types of drinks, making it quite difficult to choose," the young man shared after standing in line for more than an hour.
As soon as it appeared in Vietnam, this Thai milk tea shop was widely shared and almost became a "phenomenon" on social networks. Many young people who are reviewers also jostled to line up to take pictures and review this brand to share with everyone.
"I find the price not too expensive, ranging from 55,000-60,000 VND/cup," a happy customer said. Other drinks such as tea, coffee, and vegan milk are around 35,000-75,000 VND/cup.
Knowing the information from social media, My and Hau went to enjoy it directly at the shop. "We ordered Thai milk tea and green Thai milk tea. Compared to the current Thai tea shops in Vietnam, it is much more delicious but a bit sweeter and not as strong in tea flavor as in Thailand. The shop allows us to choose the sugar level, so next time we will reduce it," My said.
