On May 12, according to Tuoi Tre Online , although the mango harvest season has begun, a gloomy atmosphere has enveloped the area considered the "mango capital" of Khanh Hoa .
Australian mangoes are ripe in the garden but not harvested
According to many mango growers, in previous years the price of Australian mangoes ranged from 30,000 - 40,000 VND/kg, but now it is only 6,000 - 8,000 VND/kg, so many mango gardens still do not harvest even though the mangoes have gradually ripened on the trees. People call this "hanging gardens".
Even in many gardens, mangoes fall all over the ground but are not sold because they do not fetch a good price.
Mr. Vo Xuan Hien (Cam Thanh Bac commune) currently has 1.7 hectares of mango with 4 tons of mango and has invested about 100 million VND in this crop, but if sold at the current price, he will lose about 30 million VND.
Mr. Hien said that because of unfavorable weather, low fruit set rate, and low prices from traders, not enough to cover labor and transportation costs, 4 tons of mangoes are still "hanging" on the trees and have not been harvested.
The mango garden of Mrs. Mai Thi Ha (Cam Hai Tay commune) is also in the same situation. A few days ago, the price dropped to 3,000 VND/kg. Her mango garden invested 20 million VND in medicine, but was only sold for 5 million VND.
The same situation also occurs in most of the Australian mango growing areas in Cam Lam. People who used to have a stable income thanks to this specialty are now in a situation where they cannot sell it at a good price, with ripe mangoes falling all over the garden but no one is interested in picking them.
Find consumption solutions
Faced with the above situation, a representative of Cam Lam district said that many years ago, Cam Lam Australian mangoes were mainly exported to the Chinese market.
In recent years, the mango acreage in China has increased sharply and the main harvest season of Australian mangoes in Cam Lam coincides with the harvest season of mangoes in China and Cambodia. Due to great competitive pressure, the export output of Australian mangoes in Cam Lam has decreased sharply, mainly consumed domestically and processed into mango products.

Cam Lam District People's Committee has also proposed to Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee and related departments and branches, asking businesses to support the consumption of Australian Cam Lam mangoes at supermarket systems, retail systems and wholesale markets nationwide.
Mr. Le Thanh Van - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Cam Lam district - said that the current Australian mango output in the area has reached harvest season but cannot be consumed yet, which is about 1,800 tons.
"A large amount of mangoes will be damaged in the next 1-2 weeks if not harvested, so we have planned to support the consumption of the remaining mangoes in people's gardens, and at the same time connect with production and processing facilities, agricultural product purchasing centers inside and outside the province to support mango consumption for people" - Mr. Van informed.

Mr. Dang The Truyen - Director of Camlamonline Company Limited (a large local mango processing enterprise) - said that he has cooperated with frozen mango processing units in the Southern region, continuing to increase purchasing and bringing Australian mangoes for deep processing to increase value.
"We also promote the development of agricultural tourism , bringing visitors to experience mango gardens, enjoy fresh mangoes and Australian mango products to promote the image of the local fruit," said Mr. Truyen.
Cam Lam district is considered the "capital" of mangoes, with the largest mango growing area in the South Central Coast. The whole district has nearly 7,000 hectares of mangoes of all kinds, of which about 4,000 hectares are planted with Australian mangoes, the rest are Canh Nong, Taiwan, Tu Quy varieties...
