According to this report, the Outbound Travel Sentiment Score of the Vietnamese tourist market reached 124.9 points (equivalent to the average of the Asian tourism market). The Vietnamese outbound tourism market continues to demonstrate its position and positive growth potential despite the complicated economic difficulties. In the Southeast Asia region, the Outbound Travel Sentiment Score of Vietnamese tourists for this summer is only behind two markets, Singapore and Indonesia; ahead of Thailand and Malaysia.

The survey results of Vietnamese tourists planning to travel abroad within the next 12 months show that 79.7% plan to take the trip this summer. Notably, only 22.2% of tourists surveyed have booked services (in full or in part) for the trip; most of the remaining tourists are only planning or considering choosing a suitable destination.
Intra-regional tourism continues to be the dominant trend in choosing destinations for Vietnamese tourists, similar to the general trend in the world (64.4% of Vietnamese tourists choose nearby destinations in Asia for their next trip). Vietnamese tourists generally still choose traditional destinations such as: Korea, Japan, Thailand, Singapore... In particular, China has become a new prominent destination in the top 5 international destinations loved by Vietnamese tourists.
A representative of The Outbox Company shared that Vietnamese tourists tend to prioritize short vacations (short getaways) over foreign travel (71.5% of tourists choose trips of less than a week). The peak of the summer tourist season in the outbound tourism segment is forecast to fall in June and July 2024. In addition, Vietnamese tourists have clear changes in their experience needs as well as preferred types of trips during different holidays of the year. Typically, during the summer, Vietnamese tourists are interested in outdoor experiences associated with nature (36.4% of tourists choose this as their favorite experience for this holiday).
Regarding travel budget, according to the survey results, the positive point is that travel is increasingly becoming an important activity for Vietnamese people. Specifically, 31% of tourists are willing to spend more on travel experiences and 45.6% of Vietnamese tourists maintain the same travel budget as before. Vietnam's outbound tourism market continues to show good growth potential during the peak summer travel season of 2024, bringing opportunities for domestic travel businesses and international destinations. However, changes in travel behavior of the Vietnamese tourist market require destinations and businesses to have a more multi-dimensional approach based on understanding tourists.
