Key industries grow impressively
In the first 5 months of 2025, the province's export turnover reached nearly 757 million USD (reaching 89.05% of the annual plan and increasing by 57.7% over the same period last year). Of which, coffee export output reached 131 thousand tons, equivalent to 731 million USD (up 70.79% in value); rubber latex reached 221 tons, equivalent to 0.48 million USD (increasing more than 2 times in volume and 4 times in value); wood products reached 0.8 million USD; other items reached 24.67 million USD. This breakthrough mainly came from coffee with an average export price of about 5,500 USD/ton, up more than 70% over the same period in 2024.

Mr. Thai Nhu Hiep - Director of Vinh Hiep Company Limited, Vice President of Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association - said: In the first 6 months of the year, Vinh Hiep exported about 550 million USD, an increase of 48% over the same period last year. The market has been expanded to nearly 60 countries around the world , helping Vinh Hiep become a leading coffee exporter in Vietnam. In addition to exporting green coffee, the company has begun to expand into deep processing such as roasted and ground coffee, instant coffee... to increase added value and gradually build the Gia Lai coffee brand in the international market.
“Coffee export not only plays a leading role but is also the main factor that accelerates the province's export turnover. This year, Vinh Hiep will reach about 750-800 million USD. Other enterprises achieving 250-300 million USD is also easy. Therefore, Gia Lai 's export target of 1 billion USD is certainly achieved. This is an unprecedented growth rate in the history of the enterprise's operations and is also a positive signal for the province's overall export picture. Not only has the turnover increased, but the quality of products and added value from the processing stage have also been significantly improved thanks to the strong shift from exporting raw products to roasted, ground and instant products," Mr. Hiep shared.
Aiming for $1 billion
Gia Lai aims to achieve 850-900 million USD in export turnover in 2025 by expanding many new products such as fresh fruits, processed agricultural products, and wood. With the trend of coffee prices being very high, the figure of 1 billion USD this year is also expected to be the destination.

Regarding the province's key export products, Mr. Hiep said: One of the positive signs is that Japanese importers are starting to pay attention to Gia Lai's deeply processed coffee. This requires Gia Lai businesses to proactively cooperate with cooperatives and raw material areas to stabilize quality; along with that, investing in upgrading processing factories to meet export standards. "Although it is considered the most demanding market, I think Japan is not really difficult if businesses know how to tell their product stories. Japanese people buy products not only based on quality but also on story, responsibility and trust. They want to know where the raw material area is, what the processing process is, what the certification is, whether the production is responsible for the environment and the community or not... If that is met, selling coffee to Japan is completely feasible. Vinh Hiep's success story is the clearest proof of that" - Mr. Hiep shared.
Currently, Gia Lai's main export market is Europe, accounting for 50-60% of total export turnover, consuming the majority of green coffee beans, wood products, etc. Next is the Asian market (China, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia) with about 30% of total export turnover, consuming mainly rubber products, cassava chips, coffee, wood products.
Mr. Pham Van Binh - Director of the Department of Industry and Trade - said: Taking advantage of natural conditions and geographical location, Gia Lai has formed and developed many large-scale specialized areas, applying high technology to produce key agricultural products with high economic value such as: coffee, pepper, fruit, cashew, rubber... meeting export standards to many large markets such as EU, USA, Korea, Japan... Gia Lai has many reputable export enterprises, export markets expanding to 60 countries around the world. Therefore, export is not only an economic goal but also an important driving force to improve people's lives, promote green production, organic agriculture, environmental protection and international integration.
Gia Lai is making efforts to promote international economic integration, effectively exploit free trade agreements, and at the same time support the local business community to improve competitiveness, seek partners, and expand export markets. “Recent connections with foreign enterprises show that Gia Lai's typical and typical products have many opportunities to enter demanding markets with strict standards, including the Japanese market. Once goods pass through the narrow door, it means that a large door will open to all continents,” said Mr. Binh.

Gia Lai's exports are facing the opportunity to reach the 1 billion USD mark. However, to maintain sustainable growth and protect their position in the international market, businesses are forced to change their production and export thinking, from building standard growing areas (GlobalGAP, VietGAP, organic) to creating large production areas with sufficient output and consistent quality. Shifting the export of raw materials to value-added products.
According to Mr. Nguyen Anh Son - Director of the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), Gia Lai's average annual export turnover has increased steadily over the years in the period 2021-2024. In 2020, Gia Lai's exports ranked 50/63 provinces and cities, by 2024 it ranked 40/63 provinces and cities; in the first 4 months of 2025, the province's export scale increased to rank 27/63 provinces and cities. The structure of goods has shifted in a positive direction, increasing the proportion of the industrial sector. The main export products are coffee, rubber latex, wood products, etc.
“Gia Lai needs to focus on developing value-added product groups such as specialty coffee, organic pepper, honey, processed fruits and refined wood products. It is time for the province to have a clear strategy to build a brand for specialty coffee products, expand export-standard raw material areas, invest in deep processing, and at the same time strongly develop other key agricultural products such as passion fruit, durian, rubber, etc. If it can be done, Gia Lai will maintain its long-term, substantial and sustainable export position on the map of Vietnam's agricultural exports,” Mr. Son emphasized.
