The "Green Sunday" event, organized by the Cai Khe Ward Youth Union in collaboration withFPT University Can Tho, took place last weekend and attracted over 600 youth union members and young people. The young participants collected waste, cleared weeds, and built a green, clean, and beautiful street along Le Anh Xuan Street and Song Hau Park. Through these activities, the youth union members hoped to spread the message of environmental protection and call on the community to join hands for a green, clean, and beautiful city.

With the goal of contributing to building a green, clean, and beautiful city, the Cai Khe Ward Youth Union has implemented many models to promote and raise awareness of environmental protection among its members. According to Mr. Lai Phuoc Truong Thanh, Secretary of the Ward Youth Union, in addition to "Volunteer Saturday" and "Green Sunday" activities, the Ward Youth Union, in coordination with other organizations, maintains the "Children Participate in Environmental Protection" festival during the summer, with many practical activities. Furthermore, from mid-July 2025 to the present, the Ward Youth Union has established a volunteer team for building a civilized urban environment, with the core force being local youth union and association officials. They regularly support functional agencies in promoting a cultured and civilized lifestyle in public places, participating in environmental sanitation, and building the "Green, Clean, Beautiful, Civilized, and Safe Street" model...

According to the Can Tho City Youth Union, during the 2025 Summer Youth Volunteer Campaign, local youth union branches implemented many models contributing to environmental protection. Notable models include: “National Flag Road - Lighting Up Security”, “Youth Nursery”, “Orange Journey”, “Bright, Green, Clean, Beautiful, Civilized, and Safe Road”, “Ecological Embankment”… Specifically, in August 2025, the Tan Binh Commune Youth Union organized three environmental protection campaigns, collecting waste along the road in Thanh My C hamlet, cultivating over 2,000 ornamental plants in preparation for building a beautiful road in Thanh My C hamlet, and implementing the “Ecological Embankment” model (reinforcing the embankment with bamboo) at the Kenh Moi embankment in Tan Quoi hamlet. Besides creating a beautiful landscape, the ecological embankment contributes to reducing erosion and ensuring the safety of residents.

Students from universities and colleges in the city also carried out many environmental protection projects and activities during the two peak months of the 2025 "Green Summer" campaign. With over 24,000 students participating in provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region and Dak Lak province, young people propagated and supported people in cleaning up around their homes, implementing the "three clean" principles (clean house, clean alley, clean street), voluntarily collecting and disposing of waste; participating in clearing bushes and unclogging drains.

For example, the Youth Union of Nam Can Tho University deployed volunteer teams for the "Green Summer" campaign in 30 locations; each team carried out at least one environmental protection project or task. Nguyen Nhut Huy, a business administration student at Nam Can Tho University, who participated in the "Green Summer" campaign in two locations: Tho Chau Special Zone, An Giang province, and Vi Tan ward, Can Tho city, said: "Besides building a green, clean, and beautiful environment, we focused on raising awareness and guiding people to sort waste at the source. Each household sorting waste at the source helps save money (some waste materials can be recycled or sold to raise funds) and reduces environmental pollution."

Youth union branches throughout the city have also integrated environmental protection campaigns with the dissemination of information on disease prevention and control, and the protection of public health through general cleaning and improvement of the environmental landscape in residential areas. In particular, some youth union branches have launched initiatives to collect and sell scrap materials to raise funds to help elderly people living alone and children in difficult circumstances, spreading positive values to society.
