Known as one of the three high, rugged peaks in the Ta Xua special-use forest (the border area between Bac Yen district, Son La and Tram Tau district, Yen Bai ), Sa Mu - U Bo at 2,756 m high is becoming a new trekking spot for young people.
From the haunted forest to the majestic sea of clouds
Carrying a backpack and holding a stick, the journey to conquer Sa Mu - U Bo starts from Xim Vang (Bac Yen district, Son La ). The local guide will lead visitors along a small trail leading to the top of the mountain.
From the foot of the mountain to the top of the mountain is a distance of about 13 km through diverse vegetation layers, especially the magical primeval forest with moss clinging to the tree trunks.
Depending on the season, the beauty of this trekking route also changes. If visitors come to Sa Mu - U Bo in March or April, they will be lucky enough to admire the rhododendron flowers blooming wildly among the green mountains and forests.
From September to November is when maple leaves turn yellow and red, creating a poetic scene.
Not only famous for its magical forest, this trekking route also fascinates visitors with the sea of clouds floating on Sa Mu peak. From an altitude of 2,756 m above sea level, visitors can easily admire the sea of clouds lost among the jagged mountains.
The best time to hunt for clouds is from December to February every year. If it rains the day before, the magical sea of clouds will appear the next day.
Having conquered many mountains in the Northwest, Mr. Nguyen Viet Hung (photographer) shared that what he likes most about Sa Mu - U Bo is the forest with many ancient trees and moss that has a magical beauty.
"I like the feeling of conquering myself, and also want to return to nature, as someone said, Nature is not a place we visit, but a place we return to," Mr. Hung expressed.
Prepare carefully before conquering Sa Mu - U Bo peak
Before starting the mountain climbing journey, visitors should prepare their physical strength by walking and running regularly to have good health and endurance.
When starting the journey, warm up thoroughly. This involves performing movements such as walking, jogging, rotating the knees, ankles, wrists, etc. to help stimulate the body from a resting state to a moving state.
Throughout the trekking route, tourists should stick close to their group and never separate from the group to avoid getting lost or having an accident.
In your backpack, you should prepare snacks such as chocolate, dried fruit, dry food, and water. In addition, a headlamp and raincoat are also indispensable items.
Mountaineering backpacks should be waterproof to ensure that your belongings and clothes stay dry even in the rain.
Currently, this trekking route is built for both Vietnamese and foreign tourists. Each trekking group has about 10 people. A trekking tour to Sa Mu - U Bo peak lasts for three days and two nights with a cost of about 7-8 million VND/person.
