On December 27, Yen Khanh District People's Committee held a conference to summarize the 2023 Spring crop production and deploy the 2024 Spring crop production plan. Attending were leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development; leaders of communes, towns, and cooperatives in the district; representatives of a number of enterprises supplying materials and processing agricultural products.

In the 2023 Spring crop, Yen Khanh district planted nearly 8,300 hectares of various crops, with a total product value of VND 529,400 million, and a production value of VND 63.8 million per hectare. Of which, rice was 7,300 hectares, with a yield of 68.25 quintals per hectare, a slight increase compared to the 2022 Spring crop. The highlight of this production crop is that localities continue to pay attention to expanding the area of tray sowing and machine planting associated with organic production with a total area of about 500 hectares. In addition, joint ventures and associations have been strengthened, with the total area of the district being nearly 700 hectares.

In the 2024 Spring crop, Yen Khanh district aims to plant 8,290 hectares of various crops, of which 7,300 hectares are rice and 990 hectares are other crops. In the face of complicated weather conditions and difficulties due to labor shortages, to ensure the success of the set goals, the district has determined to continue promoting the conversion of crop structure, increasing the application of science and technology and mechanization in production. Gradually convert production methods from sowing to rice transplanting, expand tray sowing and machine transplanting. Strive for the rice transplanting area to reach 60% or more of the total area.

Regarding the structure of rice tea and rice varieties, the district's policy is that 100% of the area will be planted with late spring tea, with 95% planted with pure rice varieties and only 5% planted with hybrid rice varieties. The concentrated planting season is from the end of the 12th lunar month of 2023 to the first half of January 2024.

At the conference, delegates raised difficulties and shared experiences in directing and managing production, especially in expanding the area of rice cultivation and converting the crop structure. They discussed solutions to ensure irrigation water sources, control weeds, rats and pests, strengthen product consumption links, etc. to successfully implement the 2024 Spring crop production plan.
