
According to a recently issued document from the Ministry of Home Affairs , localities are required to survey salary levels, salary arrears, and bonus plans for the 2026 New Year and Lunar New Year; at the same time, businesses are required to develop bonus plans based on 2025 business results and publicly announce them to employees in accordance with the provisions of the Labor Code.
The Department of Home Affairs coordinates with the Trade Union and the Management Board of Industrial Parks to grasp the employment situation and workers' lives, proactively develop plans to prevent labor disputes and strikes during Tet.
Last year's data showed that the average bonus for the 2025 Lunar New Year was VND1.46 million per person, equivalent to 79% compared to 2024. The average bonus for the Year of the Snake was VND7.7 million; the highest was up to VND1.8 billion, for senior managers at FDI enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City.
According to current regulations, bonuses are the amount that a business pays to its employees based on business results and work completion. Bonus regulations are issued and made public by the business after consulting with the organization representing the employees.
The average salary in 2024 will reach nearly VND8.9 million per month, up 4% over the previous year. From January 1, 2026, the regional minimum wage will be adjusted to increase by VND250,000-350,000. The new levels are VND5.31 million for region I; VND4.73 million for region II; VND4.14 million for region III; and VND3.7 million for region IV per month. This is the lowest level for businesses to use as a basis for negotiating and paying salaries.
The results of the labor and salary survey in enterprises show that 22% of units only adjust the salary scale and table to serve social insurance payment; more than 45% adjust both the salary scale and the actual payment level; 5.3% adjust in other ways; 27% do not adjust because the current salary is higher than the regional minimum wage.
The Binh Ngo Tet holiday lasts 9 days, from February 14 to 22 (December 27, At Ty year to January 6). Employees who work overtime or at night during the holiday are paid at least 300% of the minimum wage according to regulations.
