

On the morning of August 26, the Standing Office for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control under the People's Committee of Ninh Binh province reported on the tornado that occurred last night, August 25, in Ly Thuong Kiet ward and Kim Bang ward (Ninh Binh province).
The tornado appeared at 8:00 p.m., lasted less than 1 minute but caused serious damage over a wide area.
In Ly Thuong Kiet ward, the affected area stretches 2km from Thi Son intersection (National Highway 21 and Phu Ly bypass) to Thi Son Secondary School.
The tornado killed one person when a wall collapsed on his house. More than 200 houses, 27 streetlights, 11 decorative signs and many other structures were blown away, collapsed or severely damaged.

Kim Bang Ward was also affected with 25 households having their roofs blown off, fences, gates and some outbuildings collapsed but there were no human casualties.
The most severely damaged area was the Thi Son intersection along the Day River. People at this intersection are still in shock when recalling the terrifying moment that lasted less than 1 minute.


The fierce wind blew away the metal roof, billboards and tossed a 2.5 ton truck. Power lines were down everywhere. Everyone was stunned by the sudden turn of events and had no time to react.

Immediately after the incident, local authorities, functional forces and electricity companies were present to support people in overcoming the damage. Director of Ninh Binh Provincial Police Nguyen Huu Manh directly directed the work to overcome the damage and ensure safety in the area.
