Lai Chau is one of the provinces with a rapidly decreasing poverty rate over the past 16 years.
The national poverty rate in 2006, calculated according to the poverty standard, was 15.5%. The poverty rate in urban, rural and regional areas in 2006 all decreased compared to previous years.
Of which, the Southeast region has the lowest poverty rate in the country (4.6%), the Northwest region has the highest poverty rate in the country (39.4%).
By 2021, the multidimensional poverty rate was 4.4%, down 0.4 percentage points compared to 2020. Of which, the Southeast region had the lowest poverty rate in the country (0.2%), while the Northern Midlands and Mountains region had the highest poverty rate in the country (13.4%).
Among 63 localities, the top 10 provinces and cities with the fastest poverty reduction rate in the country in the 2006-2021 period include Lai Chau, Ha Tinh, Hoa Binh, Thanh Hoa, Lao Cai, Quang Tri, Quang Binh, Bac Kan , Dak Nong and Dak Lak.
Lai Chau is the province with the fastest poverty reduction rate in the country in the period 2006-2021. Specifically, the poverty rate decreased from 58.2% in 2006 to 27.9% in 2021. Thus, after 16 years, Lai Chau's poverty rate has decreased by 30.3%.
After Lai Chau, Ha Tinh is the province with the second fastest poverty reduction rate in the country in the 2006-2021 period. Ha Tinh's poverty rate decreased from 31.5% in 2006 to 5.9% in 2021. Along with that, Hoa Binh's poverty rate decreased from 32.5% in 2006 to 8.2% in 2021, Thanh Hoa's poverty rate decreased from 27.5% in 2006 to 6.3% in 2021, Lao Cai's poverty rate decreased from 35.6% in 2006 to 14.8% in 2021.
Quang Tri's poverty rate decreased from 28.5% in 2006 to 8.1% in 2021, Quang Binh's poverty rate decreased from 26.5% in 2006 to 7.7% in 2021, Bac Kan's poverty rate decreased from 39.2% in 2006 to 20.6% in 2021, Dak Nong's poverty rate decreased from 26.5% in 2006 to 8.2% in 2021 and Dak Lak's poverty rate decreased from 24.3% in 2006 to 7% in 2021.
After 16 years, the poverty rate in Ha Tinh, Hoa Binh, Thanh Hoa, Lao Cai, Quang Tri, Quang Binh, Bac Kan, Dak Nong and Dak Lak decreased by 25.6%; 24.3%; 21.2%; 20.8%; 20.4%; 18.8%; 18.6%; 18.3% and 17.3%, respectively.
