BHG - Taking advantage of natural advantages, Quan Ba district has promoted the development of concentrated and bio-safe livestock farming. Many effective models have contributed to increasing income and improving people's lives.

Quan Ba district has a cool climate and abundant natural food sources, which are very suitable for developing livestock farming. Promoting existing advantages, the district focuses on implementing large-scale livestock farming models, proactively providing local food sources, and combining the application of modern care and disease prevention techniques. Specialized agencies regularly organize training and guidance on building hygienic barns, while strengthening disease prevention and control to improve livestock farming efficiency. Thanks to the synchronous implementation of solutions, livestock farming is increasingly developing and making important contributions to the local economy . As of the first quarter of 2025, the total herd of buffaloes and cows in the area reached 29,887, reaching 95.6% of the plan; the herd of pigs reached 46,550, reaching 97% of the plan; the herd of goats reached 4,591, reaching 99% of the annual plan.

Currently, in the district, many effective livestock models have been formed, bringing stable income to the people. In Thanh Van commune, Mr. Hung Van Sinh's family, Lung Cang village, boldly invested nearly 100 million VND to build a solid barn, divided into 6 compartments, suitable for the weather conditions of each season. At the same time, he proactively planted elephant grass to ensure a year-round food source for the cows. Talking to us, Mr. Sinh shared: "With the support of 20 million VND from the local government, I boldly built a barn in the direction of biological safety. Currently, my family is raising 11 cows, this year 8 have been sold, with a selling price of 10 - 15 million VND/cow. To raise livestock effectively, I always focus on regular vaccination, regular cleaning of the barn, daily health check of the cows, and immediate treatment when there are unusual signs."

In Can Ty commune, the pig farming model of Mr. Chang Mi Giang's family, Sang Can Ty village is also showing positive results. Previously, the family mainly grew corn, with unstable income. Realizing the potential of livestock farming, Mr. Giang changed direction, investing in building a closed barn, ensuring the criteria for safe animal husbandry. In 2024, he raised 54 pigs, earning nearly 200 million VND. In 2025, he continued to expand the scale to 100 pigs, determined to develop the economy from the livestock model.

Mr. Giang shared: “I determined that if I want to raise livestock effectively, I have to do it systematically, ensure hygiene and good disease prevention. The barns are built separately, on high floors, airy, windproof, the food is cooked, and the water is changed daily. I vaccinate on schedule, disinfect regularly and monitor the health of the pigs every day to detect and handle them promptly. Thanks to that, the pigs grow quickly, have few diseases, are sold in many batches, and have a stable income, much more effective than growing corn before. Raising livestock is hard work, but if you are diligent and understand the techniques, it will bring clear economic efficiency.”

Livestock not only plays an important role in the structure of the agricultural sector, but also contributes to promoting the development of household economy, creating jobs on the spot, improving people's lives. According to statistics, the value of livestock production currently accounts for 42.5% of the total value of agricultural production in the district. In addition to buffalo, cows, and pigs as the main livestock, the district also encourages the development of goat, horse, and honey bee farming... suitable to the conditions of each region.

Comrade Hang Duong Thanh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quan Ba district, said: "In the past time, the program to support the development of commercial livestock farming in the area has achieved many positive results, contributing to the successful implementation of the National Target Program on socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas for the period 2021 - 2025. In the coming time, the district will continue to encourage people to develop livestock farming according to the large-scale farm model associated with on-site grass planting, prioritizing investment in communes with favorable conditions such as: Lung Tam, Cao Ma Po, Quyet Tien, Bat Dai Son, Can Ty, Thanh Van... Strive for the value of livestock farming to account for over 45% of the agricultural structure of the whole district by the end of 2025".

With the right orientation, support from the government and efforts from the people, livestock farming is becoming an effective direction, contributing to increasing income and developing the rural economy in Quan Ba. This will be an important foundation for the district to realize the goal of sustainable and comprehensive agricultural development in the coming years.
