Ninh Thuan boy turns barren garden into a dreamy, relaxing place

The Ninh Thuan man's life has also changed completely since returning to his hometown. Instead of rushing and being busy all day, he finds himself living more slowly and relaxed.

Minh Long's 100m2 garden is covered in lush green grape vines, squash vines, vegetable beds... Over the past 3 years, this place has become a "healing" place for Minh Long and his family.

After completing his military service, Minh Long left his hometown to work in Ho Chi Minh City. He worked in the field of electrical engineering and took street photos.

In a small rented room in the city, Minh Long often missed home. He felt overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of life, bored with restaurant meals and always craved his mother’s home-cooked meals.

Gardening is Minh Long's passion.

“Every time I think about the peaceful life in my hometown, I think, 'I will try my best and someday I will come back to live with my parents. That is the true love of my life,'” Long said.

In 2021, the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, and he returned to his hometown to avoid the pandemic for a while. But when the pandemic was no longer severe, Long's plan to return to the city was replaced by another, bolder and more meaningful plan: Leave the city to return to the countryside and renovate a small garden.

“For 3 years now, I have been living the life I wanted,” Long shared.

When Long first returned to his hometown, the garden next to his house was still bare and overgrown with weeds. His parents were busy with farming so they didn’t have time to take care of it.

Minh Long started the renovation, first cutting the grass, cleaning the garden, then improving the soil, clearly dividing the areas for growing vegetables, grass, fruit trees...

He also carefully paved the path and dug a small pond to plant lotus and water lilies... Minh Long built a gate for the garden and made the fence more sturdy.

“At first, I just planned to clean the garden, make it clean and spacious, and set up a tea table there. But when I started doing it, I fell in love with it and converted the land to grow vegetables and flowers.

The garden has more trees, and every morning I hear birds chirping, which is pleasant to the ears, and I have more motivation to build the garden," Long said.

In his hometown, Long earns his living by his old job during the day, and in the afternoon he works hard in his small garden. He buys bricks and pebbles from the stream to make paths for the garden, buys vegetable and tree seedlings to plant. Long grafts and cuts some other fruit trees himself.

After 1 year, Minh Long's garden has completely "transformed". No longer the barren look of the past, the garden is now filled with the green of grass, flowers and leaves, creating a beautiful and peaceful space.

The life of the young man from Ninh Thuan has also changed completely since returning to his hometown. Instead of rushing and being busy all day, he finds himself living more slowly and relaxed. Every morning, he gets up to exercise, makes tea, watches the garden and listens to the birds singing. Every afternoon, he returns to take care of the vegetable garden and enjoys the fresh air.

“Gardening is quite hard work but I don’t feel discouraged. The garden now has many flowers and fruit trees. When we can’t eat them all, I often give them to my neighbors.

The weather in Ninh Thuan is hot and harsh, now having a cool green garden like this makes my parents very happy," Long shared.

Over the years, living near his parents, Long felt that his family bond was much closer. Instead of cold street food, he got to eat hot meals cooked by his mother, and he and his father also had more time to talk. The moments of family reunion made him feel that his decision to leave the city and return to the countryside was the right one.

The peaceful moment in Minh Long's small garden received the attention of the online community. The cute comments give him more motivation to improve the garden every day.

“I often joke that at the age of 30, I have achieved the life of a 60-70 year old. However, I think everyone wants to find a peaceful place for themselves. It doesn’t matter where you live, as long as you are happy, that place is peaceful,” Long said.
