On April 14, information from the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park Management Board (PN-KB NP) said that through surveying and exploring caves in the PN-KB NP area and Minh Hoa and Tuyen Hoa districts, the Anh-Viet cave exploration team discovered 22 new caves.
The results of the survey in March 2024 by the British-Vietnamese cave exploration team in coordination with the PNKB National Park Management Board recorded 22 new caves and 3 additional survey caves with a total length of 3,550m.
The surveyed caves range in length from 30-572m; of which the four longest caves are: Va Cave (516m), 12/2 Dry Cave (404m) in PN-KB National Park; Vuc Hung Cave (430m) in Thuong Trach Commune in the buffer zone of PN-KB National Park; Ong Dau Cave (572m) in Lam Hoa Commune (Tuyen Hoa). The cave entrance height ranges from 46-550m, the depth ranges from 32-154m.
During this period, the core area of PN-KB National Park has 7 surveyed caves with a length of 1,415m; the buffer zone of PN-KB National Park has 7 surveyed caves with a length of 1,027m; the neighboring area of Lam Hoa commune (Tuyen Hoa) has 11 surveyed caves with a length of 1,108m.
The newly discovered caves of the British-Vietnamese cave expedition are only within the scope of research, location determination, and preliminary description. Therefore, in-depth surveys and research are needed to clarify their value, thereby making accurate judgments in the conservation and sustainable exploitation of landscapes and caves.
