According to Munhwa, former members Saena, Sio, and Aran of the K-pop girl group Fifty Fifty filed a complaint with the Seoul Central District Court on August 23, suing the CEO of their former management company Attrakt - Jeon Hong Jun, demanding 301 million won in compensation with the content: "Please pay the settlement amount" (profits from music activities).
The lawsuit is a counterclaim to a 13 billion won damages lawsuit filed by Attrakt last December against 12 people, including three former Fifty Fifty members (Saena, Sio, Aran), their parents, and CEO Ahn Sung Il of the outsourced production company The Givers.
Both cases were transferred to the 31st Civil Court in Seoul and will be combined for proceedings.
The legal representative of the three former Fifty Fifty members, law firm Dongin, is handling both damage lawsuits and is asking for a settlement of 301 million won.
Meanwhile, the three female idols are actively preparing for their comeback, after signing an exclusive contract with MASSIVE E&C - a newly established record label under the entertainment and artist management company IOK Company, on August 12.
IOK Company is looking to create another success story, following the global hit “Cupid”.
In addition, the three former Fifty Fifty members are determined to show their opposition to their former agency, as their lawsuit demanding 301 million won was filed just days before the first hearing for Attrakt's 13 billion won compensation lawsuit takes place on August 29.
Former members have previously raised concerns about pay. Last June, they filed for an injunction to suspend their exclusive contract, citing Attrakt’s lack of proper care and unpaid wages since their debut.
However, the court at the time rejected their request, stating that the evidence provided was insufficient to demonstrate that Fifty Fifty's income exceeded production costs, or that there were violations serious enough to undermine confidence in the wage settlement process.
According to Munhwa, the three former Fifty Fifty members will likely use the case of Keena - the only member remaining in Fifty Fifty - as an argument for their complaint.
Keena received her first paycheck last November. Since the three former Fifty Fifty members' exclusive contract with Attrakt is still in effect until October 2023, they will likely be asked to pay for that period.
However, with both the 13 billion won damages claim and the 301 million won payment claim being handled concurrently, the court is expected to make a setoff judgment.
