3 Chinese power bank brands are being recalled en masse

China has had to set up a task force to monitor the recall of power banks after a series of explosions. Three companies Romoss, Anker, and Xiaomi recalled nearly 750,000 products, refunding more than 15 million USD to consumers.

According to China News Service , on September 25, the General Administration of Market Regulation of China established a working group to supervise the recall of power banks in response to the many power bank explosions that occurred in the first half of this year.

This monitoring team will directly go to localities such as Guangdong and Jiangsu to direct, and at the same time mobilize market management agencies in 11 provinces and cities including Guangdong, Hunan, Beijing... to review clues, check for errors and implement product recalls.

Under the supervision of market management agencies, power bank manufacturers Romoss, Anker and Xiaomi have decided to recall 1.35 million products due to safety risks.

As of now, Romoss Company has recalled a total of 167,000 power banks (accounting for 34.1% of the total recall), with the amount of refunds to consumers being 22.837 million yuan (about 3.2 million USD).

Anker Innovation recalled 565,000 units (78.7% of the total recall), refunding buyers 85.664 million yuan (about 12.02 million USD).

Xiaomi recalled a total of 17,000 units (12% of the total recall), completing a refund to consumers of 2.7 million yuan (about 379,000 USD).

Faced with the situation of insufficient deposits on Romoss's online store, leading to consumers having to queue up to register for refunds, the General Department of Market Management has coordinated with relevant agencies to support Romoss company to actively respond.

This issue has now been resolved, ensuring the legitimate rights of consumers.

Currently, designated certification organizations are conducting in-depth testing of CCC (China Compulsory Certification) certified power banks and lithium batteries.

CCC is a mandatory certification applied by China for many types of products such as electronics, batteries, power banks... to ensure safety and quality. This is considered a "passport" for goods to be allowed to be produced, imported and circulated in the Chinese market.

Accordingly, nearly 9,000 CCC certificates have been suspended and more than 600 certificates have been revoked.

Through the CCC certification online verification system, major e-commerce platforms regularly receive notifications of products or businesses whose certifications have been revoked or suspended.

They were then asked to immediately remove the relevant power banks from their sales catalogue. To date, e-commerce platforms have blocked around 80,000 related links.
