On November 21, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the list of films eligible to compete in three categories: Feature-length Animated Film, Feature-length Documentary Film, and International Feature Film. Vietnam's Red Rain is eligible in the International Feature Film category.

According to Deadline, 86 countries and territories have submitted films eligible for the International Feature Film category. The number is not the highest in the history of this category, formerly known as Best Foreign Language Film.

An international feature film is defined as a motion picture longer than 40 minutes produced outside the United States, with more than 50% of its dialogue being in non-English.

The Cinema Department commented: " Red Rain is set in the revolutionary war, realistically and movingly recreating the tragic history of the nation, honoring the brave spirit and sacrifice of soldiers.

The film impresses with its humanistic storytelling, carefully invested images, emotional music , and convincing acting from the cast.

The shortlist of 15 films for the International Feature Film category will be announced on December 16.
