Implementing the Government's direction, on December 4, 2023, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs coordinated with the Ministry of Public Security and relevant domestic agencies and partner countries to evacuate 338 Vietnamese citizens stranded in the conflict zone in northern Myanmar to safety. Implementing the humanitarian policy of the State of Vietnam and aiming to ensure maximum safety for citizens' lives, the Government will cover all costs of bringing citizens back to the country.
In the context of the ongoing conflict in Myanmar and many complicated developments threatening the safety of Vietnamese citizens in the region, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to coordinate with domestic authorities, Vietnamese representative agencies abroad, local authorities and partner countries to bring citizens home.
All costs of bringing citizens back home are covered by the Government .
So far, the Vietnamese Embassy in Myanmar has counted more than 800 Vietnamese citizens who have been granted travel documents and are eligible to be repatriated this time. The citizens will be divided into many groups and the first group will arrive in Vietnam on December 4, 2023.
Most of the citizens are young people (including teenagers, infants and pregnant women) who went abroad to work in online gambling establishments in the northern states of Myanmar, abandoned by their employers and trapped by fighting between the Myanmar military and ethnic minorities in the area.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs once again recommends that Vietnamese citizens be vigilant against invitations to work abroad for “easy, high-paying jobs” that do not require qualifications or skills, do not require a signed contract, and are not conducted through businesses or labor sending organizations.
Citizens need to carefully research the job content, unit, expected work location, relatives of the referrer, insurance regime, benefits, etc. before deciding to go abroad.
