For the Lammert family from South Carolina, USA, there is one day that is more special than any other: August 25, the day all four of their daughters were born. They are not quadruplets, but coincidentally share the same birthday. Sophia (9), Giuliana (6), Mia (3) and Valentina (2.5 weeks) celebrate their birthdays together.
4 sisters born on the same day by chance
“I’m still very surprised,” said the children’s mother, Kristin Lammert, 35. Valentina, the youngest child of the family, was born not long ago and was due to be born on September 25, but was born a month early, on her sisters’ birthday.
After being diagnosed with mild preeclampsia at 35 weeks pregnant, Kristin was finishing her last day of work when she realized something was wrong. “The whole morning was fine, until suddenly it wasn’t,” she said.
The 35-year-old still worked a few more hours and still did not expect to give birth a month early. The baby girl was born at 8:11 a.m. on August 25, weighing just 6 pounds. Valentina did not need to go to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), which shocked everyone, including the nurses. In fact, Valentina was discharged the next day.
None of the Lammert girls' births were scheduled or planned cesarean sections, so it was pure coincidence that all four were born on the same day.
The three older girls are very excited about the arrival of a new member.
The odds of multiple siblings being born on the same day are “extremely rare,” says Christine Greves, MD, an obstetrician-gynecologist at Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Children at Orlando Health System: “The Guinness World Records records a family with five siblings born on the same day, and they list the odds at about 1 in 17 billion.”
Now, the Lammert family is just one child away from breaking that record.
