(PLVN) - This year, 4 specialized high schools for grade 10 in Hanoi have made major changes in admission methods, increasing the number of exam subjects and changing the way of calculating admission scores.

According to the 2025 enrollment plan of the High School for Natural Sciences , each candidate can register for a maximum of 2 out of 5 specialized classes: Mathematics, Information Technology, Physics, Chemistry, Biology. Candidates should note that they cannot register for two majors with the same specialized exam time.

All candidates must take the three general exams: Literature, Math (round 1) and English. For specialized subjects, candidates take the exam corresponding to the registered major, including: Math (round 2) for candidates applying for the Mathematics major and the Information Technology major; Information Technology for candidates applying for the Information Technology major; Natural Sciences - Physics knowledge and skills for candidates applying for the Physics major; Natural Sciences - Chemistry knowledge and skills for candidates applying for the Chemistry major and Natural Sciences - Biology knowledge and skills for candidates applying for the Biology major.

Candidates for the Computer Science major can choose to take one of two specialized subjects: Math (round 2) or Computer Science. The quota for candidates taking the Math major (round 2) is 70 and for the Computer Science major is 35.

Candidates who are shortlisted for admission to each major must take all three general exams (Literature, English and Mathematics (round 1)) and the corresponding major exam, and must not be suspended from taking the exam. The exam score for all subjects must be 4.0 or higher.

The school notes that the scores for Literature and English are conditions and are not used to calculate the admission score.

Admission score is the total score of Math exam (round 1) multiplied by coefficient 1 and specialized subject exam score multiplied by coefficient 2. Priority and incentive points are not added in admission.

The exam results will be announced by the school before June 24. Successful candidates will submit their admission application directly to the High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences on July 10, 2025.

This year, the school only applies one admission method: entrance exam, eliminating direct admission of candidates who won first prize in provincial excellent student competition.

The University of Education High School for the Gifted has also announced its 10th grade admission plan for 2025. Instead of 3 subjects, this year candidates must take 4 exams, including Math, Literature, English and a specialized subject. Candidates register for a specialized class and take the exam for that specialized subject, except for Information Technology, which can be taken with Math. To be eligible for admission, candidates must take all four exams, with no subject below 3.5/10 points.

In previous years, the Pedagogical School did not organize an English exam. The score was the sum of three subjects, in which the specialized subject had a coefficient of two.

This year, the school applies 3 formulas for calculating admission scores depending on the specialized class, instead of applying a common formula like every year.

One is the group of specialized exams in Informatics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Geography, the admission score is the sum of the general Math subject plus the specialized subject multiplied by a coefficient of two. The general Literature and English scores are only conditions, not counted in the admission score.

Group two is candidates registering for the Literature specialized class, the score is the sum of the general Literature subject and the specialized Literature subject multiplied by a coefficient of two. Similarly, group three is the English specialized class, the score is the sum of the general English subject and the specialized English subject multiplied by a coefficient of two.

Entrance exam schedule for grade 10 of Pedagogical College for two days, June 4-5.

The admission plan for the Foreign Language Specialized High School this year has also changed. Instead of three competency assessment tests including Foreign Language (specialized subject, multiplied by coefficient 2), Math and Natural Science (multiplied by coefficient 1) and Literature and Social Science (multiplied by coefficient 1) like last year, this year candidates must take four tests including Math, Literature, English and the specialized subject. The school's 10th grade specialized exam will take place on June 1.

As PLVN reported, this year, the High School for the Gifted in Social Sciences and Humanities also has a total of 4 exams (including 3 general exams: Literature, Math, English and specialized subject exams: Literature, History, Geography) for grade 10 instead of only 1 exam for specialized subjects like last year.

The entrance exam for grade 10 at the High School for Social Sciences and Humanities took place on May 24 and 25, about a week earlier than last year.
