On the afternoon of April 26, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification, the French Colonial and Post-Colonial History Association, the Franco-Vietnamese Friendship Association (AAFV) and the Association of Vietnamese in France (UGVF) held a workshop to review unforgettable memories and reflect on the historical significance of this important event at the UGVF headquarters on Petit Musc Street in District 4, Paris.
The conference was attended by many generations of Vietnamese people in France and French friends who love Vietnam.
At the conference, speakers gave speeches, highlighting the significance of the Vietnamese people's resistance against French colonialism and American imperialism to gain independence and unify the country, the contributions of the Vietnamese community in France during the 30 years of resistance against America, and the role of anti-war movements in France.
Speaking at the conference, historian Alain Ruscio affirmed that this was a meaningful opportunity for everyone to share their thoughts on the resistance war of the Vietnamese people, as well as the reasons leading to the victory of the Vietnamese people, and at the same time share about the solidarity of the peoples alongside the Vietnamese people, in which in France there was a widespread anti-war movement opposing the US and calling for support for Vietnam politically , materially and spiritually.
Sharing with reporters from Vietnam News Agency, historian Alain Ruscio assessed the April 30 Victory as "a great echo of world stature," not just an event of Vietnam or the Vietnam-US relationship.
Representing the UGVF, Mr. Nguyen Van Bon, former Vice President of the association, said that the first links for the patriotic movement of the Vietnamese community in France were those of President Ho Chi Minh 's generation until 1945.
This generation included the engineers who had been conscripted by the French in 1939 - people who later became aware and gradually organized into movements towards the country.
When the August Revolution of 1945 succeeded, these movements gathered hundreds, thousands of people to praise and support Vietnam's revolutionary achievements. They were proud that their wishes had come true.
In 1946, during his 100-day trip to France to negotiate peace, Uncle Ho assigned overseas Vietnamese the task of becoming "ambassadors" of the Vietnamese people in France.
From here, a widespread patriotic movement was formed and great contributions were made by associations in the Vietnamese community in France, accompanying the nation throughout the resistance war against French colonialism and American imperialism.
Mr. Bon expressed that Vietnamese people abroad are very proud because Vietnam now has a position in the world, integrates and shows itself to be a country that loves peace, protects territorial integrity and independence and freedom.
Also at the conference, in addition to the speeches of the main speakers, there were further explanations about the events related to the resistance of the Vietnamese people and the victory of April 30, 1975 through the sharing of researchers, French friends - historical witnesses who have been closely associated with the resistance of the Vietnamese people, as well as the development of Vietnam and the unceasing promotion of the traditional friendship between Vietnam and France.
Attending this event, besides generations of Vietnamese people, there were also many French friends - people from friendship associations who have been and are participating in many activities to support Vietnam, not only in the past but also in the present.
Many of them came to listen again and also to better understand the resistance of the Vietnamese people, as well as the historical significance of the April 30 victory.
Ms. Isabelle Lopes - a French friend emotionally shared: "It is interesting to learn about the history of Vietnam, of the fighters, of the associations that gathered to unite for Vietnam and the Vietnamese people. That information is worth paying attention to."
In parallel with the meeting, the Vietnamese Association in France continued to introduce a number of books about the association's contributions to the nation's resistance war and the country's construction that have been published by the association in recent times.
