This year's tournament is organized by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Gia Lai in coordination with the Department of Physical Training and Sports , and the Vietnam Chess Federation.
The tournament gathered 700 athletes from 30 delegations and clubs from provinces and cities with strong and developed chess movements across the country, such as Quang Binh , Khanh Hoa, Binh Thuan, Gia Lai...
Participating in the tournament from August 1 to 5, athletes in age groups from 7 to 16 and 18 will compete in 2 basic and team formats, competing in 3 events: Rapid Chess, Blitz Chess and Super Blitz Chess.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Director of Gia Lai Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Bui Trung Hieu shared that the Central Highlands Open Chess Tournament is divided into two basic competition systems and team competition, which is a great idea of the Vietnam Chess Federation.
This tournament aims to expand and promote the movement of practicing and competing in intellectual sports in general and chess in particular throughout society.
At the same time, it is a useful sports activity for young people and children to have the opportunity to participate in competitions, accumulate experience and chess skills, access a professional competition environment; contribute to improving physical fitness, developing intelligence, and building a healthy cultural lifestyle for Vietnamese youth.
Deputy Director Bui Trung Hieu expressed that Gia Lai is very honored to be trusted by the Department of Sports and Physical Training to choose as the place to host and successfully organize many national and regional tournaments and this Central Highlands - Central Region Chess Tournament.
Although there were continuous changes in the organization time compared to the planned schedule for various reasons, it still received the attention and participation of many provinces, cities, industries, parents, and athletes.
That is a great encouragement to stimulate the movement of physical training and sports in general and chess in particular in the locality.
With the sincerity, openness, friendliness and hospitality of the people of the land of martial arts, Mr. Bui Trung Hieu hopes that the participating delegations will have positive feelings, many impressions and wonderful memories when coming to Quy Nhon, Gia Lai province.
