On May 22, information from the Food Safety and Hygiene Department of Nghe An province said that this agency has determined the cause of food poisoning in 76 preschool students of Thuan Son Kindergarten (Do Luong District).
Representatives of Nghe An education sector and Nghe An Food Safety and Hygiene Department inspected and visited poisoned students.
The food poisoning incident occurred on the afternoon of May 9, causing 76 children to be poisoned. The school and their parents took them to the commune health station and district hospital for treatment.
After the incident, the Food Safety and Hygiene Department of Nghe An province came to inspect and took 10 samples to send to the National Institute for Food Safety and Hygiene Testing to determine the cause of the poisoning.
Based on the results of the sample tests and the clinical symptoms of the children, the Nghe An Food Safety and Hygiene Department determined that the cause of food poisoning was due to the bacteria S. Aureus (staphylococcus aureus) in fermented yogurt. According to the school's Board of Directors, the yogurt was brewed by the school's chef to provide to the students.
The Nghe An Province Food Safety and Hygiene Department also requested the Nghe An Department of Health to coordinate with departments and branches to direct the strengthening of food safety work in schools with boarding kitchens.
According to science, Staphylococcus aureus is a type of bacteria that can cause many serious acute diseases, which are very difficult to treat and can lead to death if not treated promptly. If you eat food contaminated with Staphylococcus aureus, you are very susceptible to food poisoning. This bacteria often enters food when the processing and storage process is not hygienic.
