'A Film by Beyoncé' hits theaters worldwide

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên29/11/2023

Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé comes on the heels of AMC's first music video release, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour , which made a splash at the box office with $250 million in global revenue and will be available online on December 13.

Beyoncé's Renaissance World Tour was a huge success, grossing nearly $600 million in ticket sales, making it the eighth highest-grossing tour of all time and the second highest-grossing tour by a female artist.

Beyoncé's appeal is very different from Taylor Swift's, so Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé has a hard time opening weekend compared to Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour , which earned $92.8 million domestically. Beyoncé's film, which appeals to black audiences and older women, is expected to top the North American box office with an estimated $20 million and could earn another $20 million overseas in its opening weekend.

The difference in pre-sale ticket sales for both musicals is clear: Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé had an estimated $6 million in pre-sale ticket sales compared to $37 million for Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (the final figure later increased to $65 million).

Advance ticket sales for Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé are lower than those for Steven Spielberg's musicals West Side Story ($10.5 million) and In the Heights ($11.5 million).

However, if Beyoncé's film opens with $15 million to $20 million, that's a good thing. 2011's Justin Bieber: Never Say Never opened with $29.5 million, while Michael Jackson's This Is It opened with $23.2 million in North America.

Beyoncé's movie is doing very well if it opens to $15 million to $20 million.

Major markets outside North America expected to help Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé open well in its opening weekend include Mexico, the UK, South Africa, Kenya, Australia, and Germany.

There are no reviews on Rotten Tomatoes for Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé , which is directed by Beyoncé and runs just over 2 hours and 30 minutes . Deadline writer Katie Campione notes: "The film captures all the spectacle and energy that made Beyoncé's Renaissance World Tour legendary ."
