AFC admires 35-year-old captain of Vietnam women's futsal team

(Dan Tri) - The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) posted a very long article for the captain of the Vietnamese women's futsal team participating in the continental tournament, Trinh Nguyen Thanh Hang, admiring the perseverance of this player.

"Thanh Hang first came to the futsal playground more than ten years ago. She did not practice futsal since she was young, but only accidentally came to this sport through a student tournament. Not long after that, she realized the interesting thing about indoor soccer.

In 2014, at the age of 24, Trinh Nguyen Thanh Hang specialized in training and competing in futsal. A year later, she was first called up to the Vietnamese women's futsal team," the Asian Football Confederation's homepage added.

It is noteworthy that Thanh Hang is among the few players in Asia who have participated in the Asian Women's Futsal Championship three times. The Asian Women's Futsal Championship was held three times in 2015, 2018 and 2025, Trinh Nguyen Thanh Hang participated all three times.

She is an important core that helps the Vietnamese women's futsal team win the 2024 Southeast Asian Championship. This year, although coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang's team could not win a ticket to the World Cup finals. However, because the opponent that eliminated us in the quarterfinals of the Asian tournament, Japan, was too strong, the failure of the Vietnamese women's futsal team is not blameworthy.

"In the opening match of the Vietnamese women's futsal team against Hong Kong (China), she inspired her teammates to a 5-3 victory. In the second match against the Philippines, Thanh Hang scored a goal, helping the Vietnamese women's futsal team win 3-0.

Despite not being successful at the 2025 Asian Futsal Championship, the Vietnamese women's futsal team still has a goal at the 33rd SEA Games taking place later this year in Thailand. This is the tournament where the Vietnamese women's futsal team is determined to defeat Thailand to win the gold medal.

The journey to the SEA Games gold medal of the women's team under coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang still had to rely on experienced and enthusiastic pillars like captain Trinh Nguyen Thanh Hang.
