AI "explodes", how can students stand out from the crowd?

(Dan Tri) - In an era where technology is always ahead of the curriculum, when artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping the landscape of almost every field, how can students stand out from the crowd?

Students do not just study to pass the course.

At a seminar on careers in the 4.0 era, held on August 14, some experts said that AI is reshaping the landscape of almost every field, from marketing, finance, tourism to engineering. Not only information technology, sales, advertising and media... also rely on AI to create "explosive" sales.

As AI is gradually replacing many fields, students need not only degrees but also critical thinking and interdisciplinary learning abilities. Students do not just study to pass the course, but need to understand deeply, act correctly, and constantly update if they do not want to be eliminated by their chosen field.

Answering the student’s question “when AI is developing as it is now, which profession will have the most changes in the near future?”, Dr. Nguyen Tuan Quynh, Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Young Entrepreneurs Association, said that AI and technology are changing life, learning, and many fields, especially creativity and communication.

“A friend of mine who edits films using AI just signed a contract worth 650 million VND for a 45-second commercial. All characters and commercials were created 100% using AI, in 3 days. Previously, it took the team about 3 months to create a similar film.

Thus, thanks to technology, plus one main person, three assistants, and machines, the film was completed within three days," said Mr. Quynh.

According to this expert, technology is influencing and changing the commercial and retail sectors. “Around 2018-2022, there was a book we published with about 30,000 copies. This was one of the best-selling books in the Vietnamese market at that time.

However, around March 2023-February 2024, that book was sold in about 300,000 copies, 10 times more in just one year, becoming the best-selling book in the Vietnamese market on e-commerce platforms.

The reason why the number of sales exceeded that is because in an interview, a beauty queen said that if she had to go to a deserted island and could only bring one book, she would bring the book I just mentioned above.

The above interview went viral on social media platforms, making the book a “hot” one. Although the book is not easy to read, thanks to technology and social media, it has pushed up the number of books sold tremendously,” Dr. Quynh recalled.

In particular, according to Mr. Quynh, technology is changing both the medical and healthcare sectors, with many methods of medical examination gradually being replaced by AI.

Being good but lacking ability is also difficult

AI is creeping into every corner of life, many professions that were once "untouchable" are gradually disappearing silently, completely replaced by AI. So what do students do to stand out from the crowd if they want to get a job?

Master Chu Van Tuan, Acting Director of the Foreign Language Center, University of Electricity, said that when graduating, students need 5 factors: knowledge, foreign language, professionalism, skills and good attitude.

In addition to hard skills learned at school, students need soft skills such as: foreign languages, communication and teamwork skills, public speaking skills...

“For me, an employee’s attitude can be judged starting from punctuality. Being 5 minutes early means being on time, being on time means being late. If you have this spirit and attitude, you will make a good impression on the employer,” said Mr. Tuan.

From another perspective, Mr. Le Cong Minh, Director of ABBank Digital Bank, who was a specialist at Techcombank headquarters since his second year of university..., said that to attract the attention of businesses, you must first position yourself, know why you are valuable, understand what businesses are looking for, which means you have found a bridge.

“Many people say that when applying for a job, attitude is the first important point compared to skills, knowledge…, but in my opinion everything is very important and connected.

Attitude can be the first ticket to help you open the door to your business, skills help you take the first steps, but knowledge is the long-term thing that helps you shine and stay with that business for a long time.

No one keeps an employee for long simply because they are good. Good people without ability are also difficult to retain,” Mr. Minh shared.

He was also surprised when many young people asked the question “What will I do after graduation?” This expert said that after graduating from university, students are still uncertain about what to do, what direction to take, so how can they get a good job?

According to this expert, the first important thing to help you stand out from the crowd is that you know where you are, what you need, what you like, and what is important to the business.

You need to plan and experiment early. You can start by doing part-time jobs or joining career clubs while still in school to test yourself.

“Each individual’s brand comes from within and from their abilities. Ambition is very important, if you know how to identify early what you need and persevere towards it,” Mr. Minh advised.
