Tennis star Carlos Alcaraz showed his mettle and top form, overcoming tough opponent Fabian Marozsan 6-1, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 in Paris on the night. This victory not only helped the reigning Roland Garros champion successfully avenge his defeat to the same opponent two years ago, but also marked his 20th win at the prestigious Grand Slam on clay.

Alcaraz lost to Marozsan at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Rome in 2023. The second round match of Roland Garros took place under the cover of Philippe Chatrier Stadium, the Hungarian with his skillful play and delicate shots caused many difficulties for the No. 2 seed, especially when he won the second set, causing many fans to start to worry.

However, with the score in danger of being level, Alcaraz quickly quelled any concerns with a dominating performance in the third and fourth sets. He increased his initiative and launched beautiful shots, completely controlling the game. This strong performance not only helped Alcaraz qualify for the next round but also made him the first player born in the 2000s to achieve 20 victories at Roland Garros, an impressive record.

Sharing after the match, Alcaraz could not hide his satisfaction: "This was a great match. I played well in the first set and was very confident. In the second set, Marozsan started playing much better, really hungry and not missing any opportunities. It was quite difficult to deal with his style of play in that set, but I was happy to stay strong and fresh in the third set, and I started playing better and better. I had the last two sets really well."

Aiming to become the first man to successfully defend his title in Paris since Rafael Nadal (2019-20), Alcaraz will face the winner of the match between home player Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard and Damir Dzumhur. The victory, which lasted 2 hours and 9 minutes, continued the Spaniard's impressive form on clay.

Since May last year, Alcaraz has gone 29-2 on clay, highlighted by his first Roland Garros title and a run to silver at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He has won ATP Masters 1000 titles on clay, including a 7-4 win over world No. 1 Jannik Sinner in the Rome Masters final.

Alcaraz had been forced to withdraw from the Masters 1000 in Madrid due to an adductor injury and had worn a knee brace on his way to the Rome title. However, he moved freely and without the brace in his opening two matches in Paris, showing a remarkable recovery and readiness for the challenges ahead.

Marozsan posed many questions to the world No. 2 with his touch and net play. However, Alcaraz had more answers, moving flexibly to drag the 25-year-old opponent from one corner to another, creating a dramatic "cat and mouse" match.

When asked about enjoying the game, Alcaraz shared his philosophy: "Sometimes it's hard to have fun on the court, I have to suffer. It also depends on the opponent. But most of the time I try not to think about anything else but just enjoy playing and being on this type of court. I want to enjoy when I step on the court and not think about anything else. I want to play good tennis and make people enjoy my matches."
