(CLO) On November 2, India spoke out against Canada's accusation that its government planned to target Sikh activists in Canada, saying the accusation was "absurd and baseless".
Canada is home to the largest Sikh community outside India, including activists from the "Khalistan" movement - a small-scale separatist movement seeking independence from India.

Canadian officials said this week that they have uncovered a campaign targeting Khalistan activists in Canada linked to Indian government officials.
"The Government of India strongly rejects the baseless and baseless allegations levelled against the Union Home Minister of India," External Affairs Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal told reporters.
"We summoned the representative of the Canadian High Commissioner yesterday. A diplomatic note was delivered," he added.
Mr Jaiswal accused Canadian officials of deliberately leaking “baseless speculations” to the media to “discredit India”.
"Such irresponsible actions will have serious consequences for bilateral relations," he warned.
