Seen from above, the areas along the Saigon River in Thuan An City still retain the vast green of fruit gardens. About 50% of the fruit trees here are used to grow mangosteen - a fruit that is causing a fever on the internet and in the market.
This is the Saigon River originating from Dau Tieng Lake, this section flows through Thu Dau Mot, Thuan An, Binh Duong and the other side is Ho Chi Minh City. The Saigon River has endowed the Thuan An area with black, brackish alluvial soil, allowing the formation of famous 100-year-old fruit gardens. Although bordering Ho Chi Minh City, the urbanization process is taking place rapidly, but looking from above, it can be seen that the localities bordering the Saigon River of Thuan An City, Binh Duong Province still retain their inherent green color. For hundreds of years, this place has been mentioned as the land of fruit trees. Wards of Thuan An such as An Son, Hung Dinh, Binh Nham, Lai Thieu still maintain lush green fruit gardens. Instead of selling their land to change their lives just because land prices are rising, people living along the Saigon River persevere with their land, with gardening, with the green of their trees and fruits. This land grows many delicious fruits: jackfruit, coconut, durian, rambutan, longan... but the most famous is still mangosteen - a favorite fruit that is causing a fever on the internet and in the market, with mangosteen chicken salad. The entire city of Thuan An has about 600 hectares of land used to grow mangosteen, the area of mangosteen trees accounts for more than half of the total area of fruit gardens in the entire city. Mr. Nguyen Quang Tro, in An Son commune, Thuan An city, Binh Duong province still spends about 8 hectares to grow mangosteen. From May to July every year, when mangosteens ripen, gardeners begin to harvest mangosteens. Large gardens have to hire people to pick. Mangosteen from Thuan An, Binh Duong has a very unique flavor. Thick skin, white segments, sweet and sour, making those who eat it easily addicted and remember it forever. Thuan An City People's Committee said that the city is organizing the Lai Thieu Fruit Festival. The festival lasts for 1 week, from May 22 to May 28. This is an opportunity for gardeners to introduce their achievements to tourists. Mangosteen is still the fruit that attracts the most tourists. Currently, gardeners are busy picking the fruit to supply the market. The price of each kilogram of ripe mangosteen ranges from 40,000 to 70,000 VND.
