On August 17, the American company Anthropic announced that it has expanded the Learning Mode feature on chatbot Claude, allowing all users and programmers worldwide to experience it.
According to Anthropic, Learning Mode offers a new way of interacting: instead of giving direct answers, Claude will act as a guide, leading users to discover the answers themselves.
The feature can be turned on and off at any time in the Modes section of the Claude.ai platform. It was first launched in April, but was limited to the “Claude for Education” package, a specialized version of the Claude AI software for universities.
Anthropic says Learning Mode is now also built into Claude Code — the developer-specific version — with two modes: Interpretive Mode and Specialized Learning.
In Interpretive Mode, a summary of the reasoning steps will be displayed, helping users understand how Claude makes decisions during the operation process. In the other mode, Claude will occasionally stop during the coding process and insert a “#TODO” comment, asking users to complete the missing code, thereby practicing practical skills.
Drew Bent, Anthropic's director of education , said the idea for Learning Mode came from feedback from college students who were concerned about brain atrophy from relying too much on copying content from chatbots without truly understanding the subject.
“The goal of Learning Mode is to help users — whether beginners or experienced — develop analytical skills and gain a deeper understanding of code,” Bent emphasized.
From there, they can become people like software engineering managers, capable of assessing the quality of a technology project.”./.
