ViewSonic 5K monitor model. |
MacOS, like Windows, can work flexibly and well with screens of different resolutions, sizes, and ratios. However, Apple has a Retina standard with a standard pixel density. On phones, the required DPI is 300. Large screen devices must reach at least 218 ppi.
This is why the iMac models, Apple's computer monitors, have 5K resolution at 27 inches. In theory, 4K resolution is compatible with the company's 21-inch screens. For 24-inch products, the required resolution is 4.5K, while 32-inch needs 6K.
Because of this “strange” ratio, there are few products on the market that are made to serve this customer group. 4K is still the popular standard chosen by many people for general purposes. Previously, LG was the only company selling 5K monitors in 27-inch size with the UltraFine model. However, the product was expensive and there were almost no upgrades over the years.

5K monitors are often expensive and have few options. |
At Computex 2025, ViewSonic introduced the VP2788, their first 5K monitor. In addition to having a compatible resolution for Mac, the product also ensures display quality for the professional graphics customer group.
The gap between 4K and 5K seems small. However, the high standard has up to 77% more pixels. In practice, users will hardly notice the difference in sharpness between the two resolutions on a 27-inch screen at a distance of 30-40 cm. However, 5K is fully compatible with MacOS display settings. Therefore, when reducing the display ratio to a lower level to increase the font size, the device will not have jagged edges around objects.
In addition to high resolution, the product is pre-calibrated for color from the factory, with all the configurations installed according to the needs of graphic designers. The product's responsiveness is also among the industry's leading with 99% DCI-P3, certified by Pantone to meet the standard.
The manufacturer says the VP2788 display supports 1 billion colors, the panel itself is 8-bit, and is supported by FRC. However, this is not a significant drawback when the Apple Studio Display, which costs twice as much, only stops at the same technology.

The device is suitable for customers using the new MacBook generation. It has a USB-C Thunderbolt 4 port, charging the computer via the 100W PD standard. With two connection slots, the screen can also be expanded via a Daisy Chain plug.
Compared to LG UltraFine, ViewSonic VP2788 is much more modern with thin bezels, specialized anti-glare coating and flexible stand. Around the screen are arranged heat dissipation slots, because high-resolution LED panels heat up quickly when operating continuously.
ViewSonic monitors are a product that meets many needs, except for gaming. The resolution is too high, combined with a maximum refresh rate of 75 Hz, which is not optimal for the above task. In the same price range, customers can find 4K monitors with refresh rates of up to hundreds of Hz.
The VP2788's main competitors are the ProArt and Samsung Viewfinity lines, which are the same size and 5K resolution. These options are currently priced at around VND22 million in Vietnam. The ViewSonic model, which was released later, has the advantage of a higher scan speed than the two competitors and less flicker.
