Three bus stations in Hanoi welcome a surge in passengers during the Lunar New Year holiday

Statistics show that during the Lunar New Year holiday in 2025, the three bus stations: Giap Bat, My Dinh, and Gia Lam, saw a 300-400% increase in passengers compared to normal days.


The Hanoi Department of Transport has just reported to the Hanoi People's Committee on the situation regarding traffic safety and order, and the transportation of passengers and goods to serve the travel needs of the people in the city during the Lunar New Year holiday in 2025.

During the Lunar New Year holiday in 2025, major bus stations in Hanoi are expected to see a much higher volume of passengers compared to normal days.

Notably, from January 19th to 27th, the three bus stations of Giap Bat, My Dinh, and Gia Lam handled over 17,000 bus trips each day, equivalent to the same period in 2024.

The number of passengers passing through the station reached over 187,000, an increase of 300-400% compared to normal days. The total number of additional vehicles was 889.

Specifically, at Giap Bat bus station, the highest number of passengers reached over 16,500 per day with more than 850 bus trips per day. Passengers mainly concentrated on routes to Nam Dinh, Thai Binh , Ninh Binh, and Thanh Hoa.

At My Dinh bus station, the peak passenger volume reached over 16,500 passengers/day with a total of 886 bus trips/day, mainly concentrated on routes to: Hoa Binh, Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Yen Bai , Dien Bien, Son La, Lai Chau, Quang Ninh, and Cao Bang.

At Gia Lam bus station, the peak number of passengers reached 3,600 per day, with a total of 426 bus trips per day, mainly on routes to Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, and Bac Giang.

For public bus transportation, from January 25th to February 2nd, 2025, the estimated passenger volume is over 6.5 million passengers, with nearly 118,000 bus trips.

On the urban railway line, the total number of passengers transported reached over 229,000. The total number of train trips reached nearly 3,800.

Regarding traffic safety and order, according to the Hanoi Department of Transport, during the 9-day Lunar New Year holiday, the Department directed relevant units to promptly handle 78 road incidents in the city, mainly traffic collisions, displaced traffic island pillars, potholes, etc., on major roads such as: Xa Dan, Truong Dinh, Hoang Tang Bi, Me Linh, National Highway 6, Thanh Tri Bridge; National Highway 5; Ho Chi Minh Highway...

Traffic safety patrols at 17 level crossings across the city will operate normally during the holidays.

The Hanoi Department of Transport's Inspection Force has also deployed personnel at 144 locations on various routes and bus station areas; coordinating traffic management, traffic diversion, and guiding vehicles to ensure safe and smooth traffic flow; and taking timely measures to address incidents and accidents, especially on key traffic routes and gateways into and out of the capital, preventing prolonged traffic congestion.
