Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Deputy Minister of Transport Le Anh Tuan said that climate change and environmental pollution from vehicle emissions are urgent issues.
Promoting the transition to electric transport can be considered a pioneering step of the transport industry towards the goal of net greenhouse gas emissions of "0" by 2050 as committed by the Government at COP 26.

Recently, the Ministry of Transport has been actively reviewing and advising the Prime Minister to issue Decision 876/QD-TTg dated July 22, 2022 approving the Action Program on green energy conversion, reducing carbon and methane emissions in transport; Synthesizing and developing a report proposing policies to support the transition to using electric cars with a comprehensive policy framework...
Mr. Patrick Harverman, Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP in Vietnam emphasized: "In the context of limited budget, Vietnam has made remarkable progress in exempting and reducing special consumption tax on electric cars and buses."
Vietnam has many opportunities to promote the development of the electric vehicle manufacturing industry. The government needs to accelerate basic policies, such as developing a charging station system, tightening emission standards, along with setting sales targets for a number of electric vehicle manufacturers with a certain number of electric vehicles.
The workshop is an opportunity for stakeholders to discuss solutions to support the transition to electric vehicles: Clarifying the orientation and ability to meet the requirements of switching to electric vehicles from management agencies, local authorities; enterprises manufacturing, assembling and importing vehicles; investing in developing charging station infrastructure as well as the ability and demand for people to switch. Sharing international experiences and trends and proposing solutions to develop this type of vehicle in Vietnam.
In addition to the presentations, the Workshop had two in-depth discussion sessions with the topics "Solutions to promote electric transportation" and "Electric vehicle market: Perspectives from businesses and consumers".

According to the International Energy Agency, about 26 million electric vehicles have been sold globally (including plug-in hybrids), up 60% from 2021. In 2023, electric vehicle sales are expected to reach 14 million.
According to statistics from the Vietnam Register, the number of newly manufactured, assembled and imported electric cars in Vietnam has increased rapidly in recent years. If in 2021, only 167 manufactured, assembled and imported electric cars were inspected and certified, then to date there have been about 22,000 pure electric cars and more than 11,000 hybrid cars (combining gasoline and electric power). The whole country currently has more than 2 million electric motorbikes and more than 700,000 electric bicycles.
Recently, a series of businesses have also expressed interest in the market of equipment and services for electric vehicles, especially charging stations for electric cars. Currently, the country has about 50 thousand electric vehicle charging stations spread across 63 provinces and cities in Vietnam.
