On May 18 (Mexico local time, or May 19 Vietnam time), many major Mexican newspapers simultaneously published prominent information about the event celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Mexico diplomatic relations (May 19, 1975 - May 19, 2025) and the 135th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh (May 19, 1890 - May 19, 2025).
According to a VNA correspondent in Mexico, the Regeneración newspaper - the political media agency of the ruling National Reconstruction Movement (Morena) Party in Mexico - published an article with the title "Mexico and Vietnam celebrate 50 years of establishing diplomatic relations, coinciding with the 135th anniversary of the birth of national hero Ho Chi Minh ."
The article emphasized that less than three weeks after Vietnam's historic victory on April 30, the two countries established friendly relations and after half a century, they have become each other's leading partners in the region.
Author Pedro Gellert of Regeneración newspaper especially noted that May 19, the day the two countries officially established diplomatic relations, also coincided with the anniversary of the birth of President Ho Chi Minh, who led the Vietnamese people from one victory to another.
According to Mr. Gellert, President Ho Chi Minh's ideology not only brings national independence and territorial integrity but also has contemporary value in the later construction and development of the country.
Journalist Gellert also pointed out that in Mexico in particular and Latin America in general, the image of Ho Chi Minh is respected and loved by all social classes. He recalled the words of Mexican President Lázaro Cárdenas in 1969: "Ho Chi Minh and Mahatma Gandhi are not only two outstanding revolutionaries in human history but also shining examples of integrity, modesty and dedication to the goal of national liberation."
Mexico is currently one of the countries with the most Ho Chi Minh statues in the world , with 3 statues located in major cities: the capital Mexico City, the coastal city of Acapulco (Guerrero state) and the city of Guadalajara (capital of Jalisco state).
Regarding bilateral relations, Mr. Gellert - senior advisor on communications of the Morena party - affirmed that the relationship between Mexico and Vietnam is built and developed based on political trust, friendship, sustainable cooperation, mutual respect and diverse cooperation in many fields.
In particular, in recent years, the relationship between the two countries has made great strides in areas such as diplomacy, trade, culture, education, security, defense and tourism.
The fact that both countries are members of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) has strongly promoted economic cooperation, with bilateral trade turnover in 2024 reaching 15 billion USD, an increase of 27.5% compared to 2023.
Meanwhile, Voces Del Periodista - a forum of 45,000 journalists in Mexico - published an interview with Vietnamese Ambassador to Mexico Nguyen Van Hai.
The interview focuses on the journey between Vietnam and Mexico to become leading partners in Southeast Asia and Latin America, as well as the potential for future cooperation.
In an interview, Ambassador Nguyen Van Hai emphasized that after 50 years, the relationship between the two countries has developed comprehensively, covering many different areas, and is increasingly deep and effective. This not only demonstrates the close bond between the two peoples but also affirms the great potential for this relationship to continue to develop strongly in the future.
Ambassador Nguyen Van Hai said that in order for the Vietnam-Mexico bilateral relationship to continue to develop strongly, the two countries need to coordinate closely, promote existing strengths and exploit each side's potential.
Regarding bilateral trade relations, Ambassador Nguyen Van Hai said that Vietnam and Mexico need to make the most of opportunities from the CPTPP, while increasing promotion, providing information to businesses about business opportunities and supporting them in finding partners in each other's markets.
The Ambassador also proposed that the two sides continue to effectively promote the economic dialogue and cooperation mechanism, specifically the activities of the Joint Committee on Economy, Trade and Investment, to review existing problems and find solutions, create favorable conditions and expand cooperation to other potential areas such as basic industry, agriculture and high value-added industry, innovation, digital transformation and green transformation.
In addition, Ambassador Nguyen Van Hai also suggested that the two countries expand cooperation in areas of strength such as high-tech agriculture, high value-added industry, innovation, digital transformation, green transformation, sustainable development, joint research cooperation on climate change response, technology transfer and training of high-quality human resources./.
