On the occasion of the 98th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2023), on the morning of June 13, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited and worked at the Vietnam Journalists Association on strengthening and innovating state management in press activities.

Here, the Prime Minister requested the Journalists Association and press agencies to build and develop a team of journalists who are politically sensitive, economically sensitive, deeply knowledgeable about science, technology and humanity; to build a professional, modern, and humane Vietnamese revolutionary press; for the benefit of the nation, people, and for the prosperity and happiness of the people.

Also attending were Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung; Minister of Home Affairs Pham Thi Thanh Tra; Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper Le Quoc Minh; representatives of leaders of central ministries and branches; representatives of leaders of the Vietnam Journalists Association through the periods and leaders of press agencies.

The press always accompanies the country

Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association Le Quoc Minh said that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh, over the past 73 years, since its establishment in the Viet Bac resistance base during the resistance war against the French colonialists (April 21, 1950), generations of leaders and members of the Vietnam Journalists Association and journalists nationwide have always been united, proactively creative, striving to overcome difficulties, constantly growing, always accompanying and closely attached to the revolutionary cause of the Party, the country and the people, making an important contribution to the victory of the struggle for national liberation, national reunification, building and firmly defending the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland.

The Vietnam Journalists Association currently has 24,242 members, operating in 301 Association-level units (63 provincial and municipal Journalists Associations, 20 Inter-Associations, 218 affiliated Associations). In all circumstances, members and journalists always stick to reality, actively propagate the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws; encourage and support the entire Party, the entire people, and the entire army in the struggles for national independence and freedom, implementing the renovation policy initiated and led by our Party; actively participate in the work of building a clean and strong Party and political system, fighting against corruption and negativity; refuting the distorted views and arguments of hostile forces and disgruntled opportunists, protecting the Party's ideological foundation; consolidating and strengthening the great national unity bloc.

Representatives of the Journalists Association and press agencies expressed their gratitude for the Party and State's attention to the Journalists Association in particular and the country's press in general; affirmed to continue to strive to accompany the country in all circumstances; at the same time, they also reflected on the difficulties in the Association's work and press activities such as brain drain, lack of human resources, financial difficulties, etc.

Delegates suggested that the Government and the Prime Minister continue to direct relevant ministries and branches to support the Journalists Association and press agencies in digital transformation, information access, copyright protection of press works, have appropriate financial mechanisms, create conditions for press economic development; increase staff, regimes and policies for those working in the Association; and implement the Action Plan towards the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day.

Leaders of ministries and branches spoke, affirming the prestige of the Journalists Association in particular and the press in general to the Party, State, society and people; the mettle, will and desire to contribute of journalists and members of the Journalists Association nationwide; truly being a bridge between the Party, State and people. Ministries and branches supported the settlement of proposals and recommendations of the Journalists Association and press agencies such as considering expanding the payroll, considering raising ranks, digital transformation, having an ordering mechanism, increasing budget spending for the press, etc.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that the press is a propaganda tool on the Party's ideological and cultural front, an essential means of information, and an indispensable spiritual food for social life.

In particular, the Vietnam Journalists Association plays an important role in uniting, gathering, enhancing political capacity, fostering professional skills, and training professional ethics of journalists, contributing to creating unity within the Party and consensus in society.

During 73 years of establishment and development (April 21, 1950 - April 21, 2023), the Vietnam Journalists Association has continuously developed in quantity and organization, matured in quality, and made many worthy contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the people.

The Prime Minister highly appreciated and warmly commended the important achievements and contributions of the Vietnam Journalists Association and journalists nationwide, which have significantly contributed to the overall achievements of the country; in particular, he remembered, expressed gratitude and shared with the families of journalists who sacrificed their lives for the cause of national liberation, construction and protection of the Fatherland.

The Prime Minister said that, besides the achieved results, there are still shortcomings and limitations, especially in the organizational model, the supervision of members' activities... especially shortcomings and limitations such as violations of the law, violations of professional ethics by a number of press agencies and journalists; the situation of "newspaperization" of magazines and general electronic news sites; manifestations of "privatization of the press"; reflecting a lot of violence, following the market, lacking orientation, lacking education and humanity...

In particular, the Prime Minister also shared the difficulties and challenges that journalists' associations at all levels, press and media agencies and journalists across the country are facing, especially the decline in revenue and income, fierce competition with cross-border platforms and social networks...

Journalists must be politically astute, economically sensitive, and deeply knowledgeable about science, technology, and humanities.

Analyzing the domestic and international situation and the challenges facing information and communication work in the coming time, the Prime Minister said that in order for the Vietnamese press to be truly revolutionary, professional, humane and modern, the Journalists Association and press agencies need to step up activities to gather and build a team of journalists and members with high political and ideological qualities, mettle, capacity and professional qualifications to "serve the Fatherland", "serve the people", "serve the class and humanity" as beloved Uncle Ho once advised.

The Prime Minister requested: “We must build and develop a team of journalists who are politically astute, economically sensitive, scientifically and technologically profound and humanistic; build a professional, modern and humanistic Vietnamese revolutionary press; for the benefit of the nation and people, for the prosperity and happiness of the people.”

The Head of Government requested the Journalists Association at all levels and press agencies to create a cultural space in press activities, thereby helping to correct "deviations" in professional ethics, promote humanistic values ​​in press activities; protect the legitimate interests of members in performing their duties, and at the same time strictly handle violations, especially taking advantage of the press to go against the goals and ideals of the Party and the policies and laws of the State.

Directing the Associations at all levels and press agencies to continue to thoroughly grasp and effectively implement the goal of building a professional, humane and modern press and media in accordance with the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, the Prime Minister emphasized that the press must accompany the nation, perform better the function of ideological orientation, be a sharp weapon to protect the Party's ideological foundation, protect national and ethnic interests. Closely follow the political tasks of the country, agencies, localities and units to reflect, especially the 6 key tasks and 3 strategic breakthroughs.

The Prime Minister requested the press to promote and honor the core values ​​of the nation such as humanity; the beauty of truth, goodness and beauty; the strength of great national unity; the will and determination to face and overcome difficulties and challenges; and the great creativity of the people.

Along with that, strongly promote the start-up movement, innovation, development of green economy, digital economy, circular economy, contributing to building an independent, autonomous economy associated with proactive, active international integration, deep, substantive, effective...; arouse the spirit of self-reliance, self-reliance, daring to think, daring to do to realize the aspiration to develop a prosperous and happy country; strengthen analytical information, creative journalism, solution journalism.

“Do not avoid negative issues, but report in a constructive way, find ways to overcome and resolve them in a humane and humanitarian way, in accordance with the law to bring more positive emotions, beliefs, perspectives and results to the community,” the Prime Minister noted.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested press agencies and Journalists Associations at all levels to focus on discovering hot, sensitive, newly emerging issues, bottlenecks, and bottlenecks that are of public concern, and to address difficult, complex issues at home and abroad; to reflect vividly, objectively, multi-dimensionally, comprehensively, scientifically, deeply, and to have solutions for each issue. To overcome the situation of “newspaperization” of magazines, manifestations of “privatization of journalism”, and following trivial tastes. In particular, to promote cultural propaganda commensurate with propaganda on economics, politics, and society.

The press must take the lead in discovering and praising new factors, good people, good deeds, using beauty to eliminate ugliness, using positivity to push back negativity, creating motivation, inspiration, and spreading in the community and society; performing well the role of supervision and criticism; providing accurate, timely, honest, and transparent information; stepping up the fight to protect truth, justice, and good people; condemning bad, evil, and negativity; opposing wrong thoughts and actions, especially the state of degradation in ideology, politics, morality, and lifestyle; refuting distorted, toxic, and untrue information; actively participating in preventing and combating corruption, negativity, and waste.

The Prime Minister directed: "Absolutely do not leave this hot front empty or give way to hostile forces and reactionary organizations to sabotage all media fields, especially digital media and social networks."

Create conditions for press development

The Head of Government requested to promote digital transformation of journalism associated with digital economy and journalism and media economy; increase the application of artificial intelligence, big data, and new technologies in journalism and media activities; closely follow inevitable trends in world journalism and media to innovate and perform well the role of leading and orienting public opinion; strengthen political training, professional expertise, and professional ethics for reporters and journalists; perfect and strictly implement the law on journalism, ensure freedom of the press as prescribed by law, protect journalists, the right to practice legally, and the legitimate interests of journalists.

The Prime Minister affirmed that the Party and State highly appreciate the important contributions of the national press, including the Vietnam Journalists Association, and always create conditions for the press and the Vietnam Journalists Association to promote their role and position and successfully fulfill their assigned political tasks.

The Government highly appreciates and wishes to listen to the enthusiastic and responsible opinions of journalists in policy making and implementation; wishes the press to further promote the spirit of revolutionary journalism to continue to convey the major guidelines and policies of the Party and State to the people and reflect the aspirations of the people, especially policies with great impacts such as the Land Law, policies on innovation in the fields of economy, education, infrastructure, health, policies for ethnic minorities, for remote areas, borders, islands, policies on great national unity, etc.

On the occasion of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent the best wishes to journalists across the country; journalists will increasingly produce high-quality press works, contributing to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, worthy of the trust and love of the Party, State and people.

Regarding the proposals and recommendations of the Vietnam Journalists Association and press agencies, the Prime Minister said that these are all legitimate proposals, stemming from practical and realistic requirements; agreed to consider them, and at the same time requested the Vietnam Journalists Association and press agencies to proactively coordinate with ministries and branches to build mechanisms suitable to the general situation and implement them practically and effectively; in order to create the best possible conditions for the press to be self-reliant, self-reliant, and develop with the country; including reviewing and amending decrees and circulars, perfecting press planning; investing in digital infrastructure, training human resources for press agencies; innovating financial mechanisms, ordering and assigning tasks to press agencies...
