In October, the Provincial General Hospital No. 2 received and performed emergency endoscopic surgery on two 13-year-old patients with perforated stomachs. The worrying thing is that neither of them had a clear history of gastric or duodenal ulcers. Through initial medical history, risk factors were noted, including: the habit of eating spicy foods, staying up late, and prolonged study pressure.

Ms. Le Thi Thu, mother of patient Nguyen Bao Trang in Cam Duong ward shared: "My child can eat spicy food, so he often eats fried dishes with chili sauce and chili powder. Besides, he is stressed because he often stays up late and wakes up early to study and review for midterm exams. Recently, he often complains of a dull stomach ache, his family just thought it was normal pain, until the day he had a severe stomach ache, they took him to the hospital and the doctor informed him that he had a perforated stomach. Currently, he has had surgery and is recovering well, and on the second day he was able to walk again."

According to Dr. To Minh Hung - Deputy Director of Provincial General Hospital No. 2, gastric and duodenal ulcers, especially perforation complications, are common in adults (30 - 50 years old). However, the cases are getting younger, even appearing in children, showing an alarming change. In particular, eating spicy foods, staying up late and studying pressure are strong stimulants, causing the stomach to suddenly increase acid secretion, which can lead to acute ulcers and perforation even without a history of chronic disease.
"When parents see their children showing signs of abdominal pain or epigastric pain, they need to take them to the doctor immediately to avoid the unfortunate situation of having to undergo surgery when they are brought to the hospital. With the two patients admitted to Provincial General Hospital No. 2, they both received timely laparoscopic surgery. This surgical method has many advantages: small incision, completely suturing through endoscopy helps to recover faster after surgery" - Doctor Hung further emphasized.
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle with a balanced and scientific diet are key solutions to help protect digestive health right from school age, thereby minimizing the risk of dangerous complications.
