Hanoi Moi Newspaper held a conference to contribute opinions to the draft revised Press Law.

At the conference, delegates highly appreciated the significance of amending the Press Law to institutionalize the Party's policies and guidelines on the press, especially the orientation of the 13th National Party Congress on "Building a professional, humane and modern press and media" and the provisions of the 2013 Constitution.

The amendment and supplementation of a number of articles of the Press Law will contribute to ensuring the unity and uniformity of the legal system, legalizing clear issues that have been tested in practice; reviewing and clearly identifying the contents and scope of issues that need to be amended and supplemented to overcome existing shortcomings, limitations, difficulties and problems that arise.

The draft Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Press Law consists of 2 articles and 27 clauses. To serve the amendment and supplement of the Law, up to now, the Ministry of Information and Communications has summarized the implementation of the Press Law in 2016 from localities, ministries and branches; organized activities to serve the research and preparation of documents to propose the development of the Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Press Law; organized seminars with experts on major and important contents of the Law.

At the same time, the Ministry has posted the proposal for the Law on amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Press Law on the Government's electronic information portal and the Ministry of Information and Communications has sought comments as prescribed. Along with that, it has sought comments from localities, press agencies, and the Vietnam Journalists Association on the proposal for the Law on amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Press Law; received and explained comments from participating agencies and organizations...

At the conference, delegates made many contributions to clarify the contents related to the merger of press agencies, press development planning and management; the issuance of press cards; regulations on response time of functional agencies, units, enterprises... to requests for information from press agencies...
