In the semi-finals, U23 Vietnam will face the best second-placed team, U23 Philippines. In the past, the Philippines was not highly regarded when facing Vietnam at the youth level. In fact, this is the first time U23 Philippines has passed the group stage of the U23 Southeast Asian tournament.
However, Indonews said that U23 Vietnam will not have an easy match. This newspaper commented: “U23 Vietnam just had a hard-fought victory over U23 Cambodia thanks to a late goal by Dinh Bac. Despite having a superior squad, U23 Vietnam could not easily defeat their opponent. They encountered too many difficulties against an opponent that was rated lower.
In the semi-finals, coach Kim Sang Sik's team faced an underdog, the U23 Philippines. They advanced as the second-placed team with the best record.
In this tournament, U23 Philippines is not considered a strong opponent. However, they have somewhat proven their strength when winning 2-0 against U23 Malaysia. In the second match, U23 Philippines only lost 0-1 to U23 Indonesia, before they won against U23 Brunei in the final match.

Will U23 Vietnam easily win? Remember, U23 Philippines under the leadership of coach Garrath McPherson will enter the match with a relaxed spirit, without much pressure. Similar to the match against U23 Malaysia, when being forced to play on the field, coach McPherson's team took full advantage of quick counter-attack opportunities. Both goals in the victory over Malaysia came from well-organized counter-attacks.
This will be something that U23 Vietnam needs to carefully calculate in the upcoming match. They must both attack and guard against counterattacks from their opponents. Therefore, defeating U23 Philippines will certainly not be an easy task for coach Kim Sang Sik and his team."
The semi-final match of the U23 Southeast Asian tournament between U23 Vietnam and U23 Philippines will take place at 4:00 p.m. on July 25 at Bung Karno Stadium.
