Located in the center of Tho Tang town (Vinh Tuong), Tho Tang communal house is one of the typical communal houses of the 17th century Northern communal house architecture and sculpture. The investment in restoration, embellishment, conservation and promotion of the value of Tho Tang communal house relics in association with tourism development has always been of interest and focused on by all levels, sectors and local people.
Tho Tang Communal House was built in the 17th century. This is the place to worship Lan Ho Do Thong Dai Vuong - a talented general who defeated the Yuan - Mongol invaders. Legend has it that the famous general Phung Lan Ho was from Dong Bang village, Tung Thien district, Son Tay province, now Son Tay town, Hanoi city.
When the Yuan-Mongol invaders invaded our country, King Tran Nhan Tong issued an edict calling for talented people to fight the enemy. Phung Lan Ho asked to go and was given the order by the king to command an army to Gia Ninh area (now Bach Hac ward, Viet Tri city, Phu Tho province) to arrange troops and set up a defense line to protect the capital Thang Long. Because of his contributions to helping people fight the enemy and save the country, Phung Lan Ho was granted the title of Marquis (Lan Ho Marquis) and became an official in the court, but he refused, asking to return to his hometown to take care of his old mother.
Having lost the battle, the Yuan-Mongol invaders were furious and sought to return for revenge. Phung Lan Ho was again summoned to command the Gia Ninh - Duc My front line. However, the enemy was strong and numerous, and he was wounded while fighting in the Bach Hac area - the river junction of present-day Viet Tri city. In a moment of danger, he rode his horse through Tho Tang land and his blood was shed there. Later, when King Tran Nhan Tong praised General Phung Lan Ho and bestowed the eight words "Nam Thien Trang Khi Bac Khau Han Tam", the people of Tho Tang reported to the court to build a temple to commemorate him.
