Former Chelsea and England captain John Terry feels confused and frustrated that his wealth of experience from a glittering playing career and assistant coaching role at Aston Villa is not enough to convince clubs.
After retiring, John Terry became assistant to Dean Smith at Aston Villa, helping them gain promotion to the Premier League. Although he was expected to become a head coach soon, the offers never came. He briefly returned as assistant at Leicester City and is currently a part-time mentor at Chelsea's academy.
Speaking to The Sun , Terry said: “I’m done with coaching. I’ve applied to different clubs and those days are over for me.”
The former Chelsea and England centre-back finds it baffling that his experience as a Premier League assistant and captaincy for both Chelsea and England should have been enough to land him a job, albeit at League One level.

Terry continues to wonder why so many other inexperienced people can become managers, while he is rejected for the same reason. “I have the qualifications to be a good coach, but unfortunately it didn’t happen,” he said.
In fact, even Dean Smith once held Terry in high regard, believing he would become a top coach. However, despite such praise, the opportunity never came to Terry.
Terry's story is in stark contrast to his former teammates like Frank Lampard, Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard, who were given many opportunities to become coaches.
