(Fatherland) - On the afternoon of November 18, at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism (Dong Mo, Son Tay, Hanoi), the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism held the Closing Ceremony of the 7th Then Singing and Tinh Instrument Festival of the Tay and Nung Thai ethnic groups in 2024. Deputy Minister Trinh Thi Thuy attended the Closing Ceremony.


The 7th Then singing and Tinh musical instrument festival of the Tay, Nung, and Thai ethnic groups in 2024 will take place from November 16-18, 2024, organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in coordination with the Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism of 14 provinces and cities.

Speaking about the Festival, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai Nhung, Director of the Department of Ethnic Culture (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) said: The Festival took place according to plan, fully implemented all contents, ensured safety in all aspects, created an atmosphere of excitement, solidarity, and pride in traditional cultural values ​​so that the Tay, Nung and Thai ethnic groups could raise their awareness, understanding and sense of responsibility to preserve the precious cultural heritage of their nation.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai Nhung, the festival was attended by more than 400 artisans and mass actors of the Tay, Nung and Thai ethnic groups from 14 provinces and cities ( Hanoi , Bac Giang, Lang Son, Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, Bac Kan, Cao Bang, Ha Giang, Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Son La, Dak Nong, Dak Lak and Lam Dong). The festival is an opportunity to introduce and promote the unique cultural heritage values ​​of ethnic groups to domestic and international friends, thereby honoring the unique cultural and artistic forms of the Tay-Nung-Thai ethnic groups; contributing to raising awareness of preserving, promoting, developing and constantly creating new cultural values ​​in the period of sustainable national development, expanding international integration, building an advanced Vietnamese culture with strong national identity. In particular, the Festival has created a good impression on visitors about the values ​​of Vietnamese heritage in general, and the art of Then singing and Tinh lute in particular.

The festival took place with main activities including: Performance, introduction of Then singing art with Tinh instrument with the participation of 14 groups with more than 400 artists and actors participating in the festival, performing nearly 56 unique performances clearly demonstrating the awareness of preserving and promoting Then heritage values ​​in the current period; traditional cultural features of the Tay, Nung, Thai ethnic groups were recreated through ancient Then, new Then melodies, Tinh instrument ensemble, Then dance... by participating artists with Then melodies, rituals and Tinh instrument sounds, immersing viewers in a cultural space imbued with national identity.

Regarding the exhibition of traditional cultural products of the locality. Each group has a style and a nuance, but through the exhibition space, it shows the economic potential of the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the Tay, Nung, Thai ethnic groups. The provinces display artifacts, images of Then singing art, Tinh lute, images of typical artisans, costumes, musical instruments, medicinal herbs, agricultural products, brocade weaving, Tinh lute making, traditional cuisine of the provinces participating in the Festival, reflecting the cultural characteristics and tourism potential of each locality, contributing to making the Festival space more colorful.

Photo exhibition "Then singing and Tinh lute art heritage" organized by the Department of Ethnic Culture and thematic exhibition "Then cultural heritage in the lives of the Tay, Nung, and Thai ethnic groups" carried out by the Museum of Cultures of Vietnam's Ethnic Groups, thereby contributing to conveying the message of protecting culture in general and the Then heritage of the Tay, Nung, and Thai ethnic groups in particular in contemporary life, helping visitors have a deep and multi-dimensional view of the Then heritage in the cultural life of the Tay, Nung, and Thai ethnic groups.

Within the framework of the Festival, troupes of artists and mass actors from 14 provinces participated in the parade along the route of Hai Ba Trung - Trang Tien - Dinh Tien Hoang - Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square and performed art programs with items imbued with the cultural identity of the Tay and Nung Thai ethnic groups, creating a joyful atmosphere, filled with the cultural colors of the ethnic groups, attracting the attention of many people and tourists in the capital Hanoi. The program contributed to bringing the art of Then singing and Tinh lute closer to the public, helping the people of the capital and international tourists have the opportunity to learn about Then practices that have been recognized by UNESCO.

Performances at the Closing Ceremony

The festival is a connecting thread, building solidarity between localities, artisan groups, and mass actors of the provinces. This is also an opportunity for the cultural identity of ethnic groups to be spread, experiences to be shared, and at the same time, it is also a recognition by the Party and State for the efforts of localities, especially artisans (cultural subjects) who have made great efforts in preserving and promoting the fine cultural identity of ethnic groups in the colorful flower garden of 54 ethnic groups.

Director of the Department of Ethnic Culture Nguyen Thi Hai Nhung and Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Information Tran Thi Van Anh presented souvenir cups and books to representatives of 14 groups of artists and actors from provinces and cities participating in the Festival in the Performance Program Introducing the art of Then singing and Tinh lute at Hoan Kiem Lake on the afternoon of November 17.

At the same time, after the Festival, artisans and extras have more motivation to unite together to continue promoting the spirit of the Festival and return to their villages to gain more experience in preserving and promoting the cultural identity of their people.

At the end of the Festival, the Organizing Committee awarded 20 A prizes, 20 B prizes and 16 C prizes in the Then singing and Tinh lute performance competitions. In the exhibition space competitions; brocade weaving and Tinh lute making demonstrations; culinary exhibitions, for each competition, the Organizing Committee awarded 5 A prizes, 5 B prizes and 2 C prizes and many prizes in different categories./.
