On May 20, Dr. Chu Viet Anh, Department of Surgery, Orthopedics and Rehabilitation, said that the initial cause of facial nerve palsy was due to the child bathing late at night and sleeping in an air-conditioned room with low temperature.
So, right after waking up, the baby has symptoms of hemifacial paralysis: the paralyzed eye cannot close completely, forehead wrinkles are lost, and the mouth is crooked to one side. This is a condition where one side of the facial muscles is weak or sagging due to damage or loss of function of the nerve that controls the facial muscles.
Dr. Viet Anh said that Bell's palsy can occur at any age, including pregnant women, people with weakened immune systems and poor health. There are many causes of Bell's palsy, including sudden cold exposure and stroke.
Facial nerve palsy greatly affects the patient's aesthetics. If not treated promptly and thoroughly, it can cause some complications such as conjunctivitis, keratitis, hemifacial spasm after facial paralysis... The treatment time for facial nerve palsy is quite long, usually several months.
To prevent Bell's palsy, people should avoid bathing late and sleeping in a closed room with air conditioning at low temperatures. The air conditioner should be turned on at 26 degrees Celsius, especially for young children, to ensure that the child is kept warm, especially at night.
Children with facial paralysis often have difficulty eating, closing their eyes, and making facial expressions. Parents need to monitor closely to detect early signs and take their children to the doctor for treatment as soon as there are unusual signs.
