Hospital Reports Alleged Negligence That Puts Newborns at Risk

(Dan Tri) - Dong Hung District General Hospital, Thai Binh Province has issued a quick report on the hospital's doctor being accused of negligence, causing an accident to a newborn baby.

On May 6, speaking with Dan Tri reporter, the leader of Thai Binh province's Department of Health said that Dong Hung District General Hospital had a quick report on citizens coming to this hospital to make complaints and petitions.

According to a report from Dong Hung District General Hospital, at around 2:15 p.m. on May 5, some relatives of the pregnant woman NHNM, residing in Group 3, Dong Hung Town, Dong Hung District, Thai Binh Province, came to the hospital to express their opinions and request clarification of the responsibility of the on-duty team and the hospital for the health of the newborn baby of the pregnant woman M.

Previously, on April 21, the pregnant woman M. went to the Obstetrics Department - Dong Hung District General Hospital for examination and was admitted to the hospital to give birth for the first time. Doctors examined and diagnosed a 41-week pregnancy, first labor, and predicted a normal birth. On April 22, the pregnant woman was assigned to have an induced labor.

At 4:47 a.m. on April 23, the pregnant woman was diagnosed with a 41-week pregnancy, first labor, the cervix was fully dilated, and the head was not in. Therefore, the doctors ordered an emergency cesarean section to deliver a baby girl weighing 3.5 kg.

The report confirmed that the baby cried immediately after birth, but then showed signs of cyanosis and difficulty breathing. Medical staff performed resuscitation on the newborn and consulted to transfer the baby to Thai Binh Children's Hospital by ambulance 115 at 7:15 a.m. the same day.

When the 115 emergency staff arrived at the hospital, the newborn's condition had worsened, so the hospital invited support from Thai Binh Children's Hospital to assist with emergency care and transfer the newborn to a higher level for treatment. Currently, the newborn is receiving intensive care at Thai Binh Children's Hospital.

By the afternoon of April 29, the mother M.'s health had stabilized and she was discharged from the hospital. The mother's family went to the Obstetrics Department of Dong Hung District General Hospital to request clarification of the responsibility of the emergency team for the mother and newborn.

On the afternoon of May 2, the family and representative of the family of the pregnant woman M. continued to go to Dong Hung District General Hospital to make a request and send a complaint to the hospital director.

The hospital has received comments and complaints. The Director of Dong Hung District General Hospital directed the establishment of a professional council to respond to the complaint according to regulations.

At around 2:15 p.m. on May 5, the family of the pregnant woman M. gathered in large numbers at the hospital to demand clarification of the responsibilities of the medical staff involved in the emergency treatment of the newborn. At the same time, these people recorded a video of the process and posted it on social media.

The Director of Dong Hung District General Hospital directly discussed and encouraged the family to calmly handle the work, focus on treating the newborn to help the child recover soon, and directed individuals and departments to implement steps to resolve the complaint.

Previously, a video was posted on social media recording some people coming to Dong Hung District General Hospital to question the hospital and doctors about the case of a newborn baby having a dangerous incident after birth at this hospital.

The leader of the Thai Binh Provincial Department of Health said that on the afternoon of May 6, Dong Hung District General Hospital held a meeting of the professional council to review and evaluate the entire examination, surgery, emergency and treatment process of the on-duty team for this case of pregnant woman and newborn, in order to have a basis to resolve complaints and respond satisfactorily to the pregnant woman's family.
