Viet Duc Friendship Hospital organizes free examination and consultation for children with scoliosis

This is an annual program carried out by the Department of Spinal Surgery, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital with the desire to support children with hunchback and scoliosis to be examined and consulted promptly by leading domestic experts.

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Dinh Ngoc Son - Head of Spinal Surgery Department, scoliosis is a fairly common disease in children with an incidence rate of about 0.5-1% of the population. Many cases have unknown causes or originate from congenital factors, neuromuscular diseases or prolonged incorrect living habits.

According to Dr. Son, many children will have complications if the disease is detected late. There is even a 16-year-old patient with a scoliosis angle of up to 120 degrees, affecting respiratory function and lung ventilation disorders. For adults, if the scoliosis is curvature, it will be corrected and the bone will be welded so that the scoliosis does not develop further. However, for children, if the bone is fixed, it will seriously affect the overall development of the spine, causing developmental abnormalities. In addition, the disease also affects the appearance and psychology of children, making them lack confidence.
