Recently, an insider from Samsung iUniverse revealed that the Galaxy S25 Ultra series sold 8.39 million units in 5 months of business. A report from IDC said that the Korean company still maintained its performance in the first half of the year. The company ranked first among global smartphone manufacturers in the second quarter, with a market share of 19.7%. However, the low-cost and mid-range Galaxy A products accounted for the majority of this achievement.
Samsung's flagship sales are hard to compare with Apple's, which has now fallen far behind. However, the company still maintains a huge gap with its Chinese rivals.
According to Lei Technology, citing a reputable leaker in the country, Xiaomi sold 566,000 15 Ultra units. Vivo X200 Ulta and Find X8 Ultra sold 219,000 and 210,000 units respectively. The total of these three companies combined was only about 1 million units, equivalent to 1/8 of Samsung's capacity.
The Korean company’s outstanding sales come from its extensive distribution network. They sell expensive phones through carrier contracts in their home country and in major markets such as Europe, the US, Japan, etc. Meanwhile, Chinese phones like the Xiaomi 15 Ultra are distributed mainly in emerging markets. In Vietnam, Vivo does not sell flagships. Meanwhile, Oppo only sells up to the Find X8 Pro model, lacking the Ultra.
In terms of technology, Samsung phones have chosen to develop in a separate direction from their competitors from the billion-people country. The Ultra line has a square design, a titanium alloy frame, and supports the S Pen. The camera also uses a 200 MP sensor instead of joining the 1-inch sensor race.
Samsung devices have the advantage of fast software updates, powerful AI tools, and support for many markets. However, the design and functionality of the device are updated in small increments. The level of upgrades and changes that the company brings to its flagship line is small and insignificant.
Meanwhile, Chinese smartphones have a relatively similar design with a circular camera cluster occupying half of the back. The long zoom lens system and large main sensor make the camera increasingly large. In return, the image quality from Find X8 Ultra, Xiaomi 15 Ultra or Vivo X200 Ultra are all rated higher than Samsung flagships. Their finishing ability and configuration are not inferior to Galaxy devices.
