According to VATM, the completion of the air traffic control tower's roof is a significant step in the roadmap for building modern air traffic management infrastructure at Long Thanh Airport. This structure will be the main air traffic control center, helping to ensure safety, order, and efficiency in the region's airspace.
This also marks a significant technical milestone for Component Project 2, signifying the completion of the reinforced concrete structure and creating a solid foundation for the installation of the ground-based surveillance radar (SMR) system, a particularly important piece of equipment in air traffic control.
The Long Thanh Airport Air Traffic Control Tower is designed in the shape of a lotus bud, with a height of 123m and a construction area of approximately 80m2. The tower's body has a diameter of about 10m, the control cabin on the tarmac has an area of about 15m2, and there are two control cabins on the apron, each with an area of about 70m2.
The equipment systems are designed using the most modern automation technology available today and have an open orientation for future technological investment. This is the tallest structure in the Long Thanh Airport area, ensuring comprehensive coverage of all ground operations such as runways, taxiways, and aprons.
The placement of SMR radar at this location minimizes blind spots caused by buildings, vehicles, or obstacles, contributing to improved air traffic monitoring and control efficiency.

Previously, in a report submitted to the Government, the Ministry of Construction stated that the Long Thanh Airport air traffic control tower project is expected to be fully completed before September 30, 2025. Meanwhile, auxiliary items (technical building; VIP house; power station and other auxiliary facilities such as fences, gardens, etc.) are under construction, with the exterior finishing and the installation of the electromechanical systems inside. These are also expected to be fully completed before September 30, 2025.
Specifically, construction items serving air traffic management, such as primary/secondary radar stations and radio transmitters; radio receivers and dependent monitoring stations; meteorological radar stations; multi-directional navigation and rangefinder stations, have been largely completed in terms of construction, with the antenna towers and radar towers having their steel structures constructed. The entire project is expected to be completed by August 2025.
