Exemplary Party Cell Secretary, actively building new rural areas

Party Cell Secretary and Head of Binh Dien Hamlet Nguyen Van Quyen takes care of the flower stall along the road near his house.

Mr. Nguyen Van Quyen used to work at the Department of Agriculture of Long An province (now the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tay Ninh province). After that, he resigned, returned to his hometown to work in the fields and opened a tea shop at home with his wife. In 2001, he was honored to join the Party and in 2004 was elected as Secretary of the Hamlet Party Cell. From 2017 to present, he has been Secretary of the Party Cell and Head of Binh Dien Hamlet.

“As a grassroots cadre, the most important thing is to be close to the people, understand the people and set an example for the people. Only then will the people trust and agree. I remember that in the past, Binh Dien hamlet was very difficult, the roads were mainly red dirt, traveling in the rainy season was extremely difficult, and the people were still very poor. Yet the Resolution of the Commune Party Committee for the 2010-2015 term set a target of building 4km of concrete roads in the hamlet. It took me and the Party Cell only 2-3 years to mobilize and complete 8km of concrete roads. Up to now, 100% of the roads in the hamlet have been hardened with concrete or cement,” said Mr. Quyen.

To carry out projects that exceeded targets, Mr. Quyen persistently applied the motto "People know, people discuss, people do, people check, people supervise, people benefit". All policies are made public so that people know and participate in discussions. When building roads, he gives an estimate of the total amount of money to spend and then lets people agree on how to contribute. Thanks to that, people are highly unanimous, and many completed projects still have enough money left over to build gates and street lights.

Binh Dien Hamlet currently has 445 households with about 1,600 people. Thanks to the skillful mobilization work of Party Secretary and Head of Binh Dien Hamlet Nguyen Van Quyen, the number of poor and near-poor households in the hamlet has decreased to 7 poor households and 19 near-poor households. Every year, he mobilizes hundreds of gifts from benefactors to support households in difficult circumstances in the hamlet.

Not only that, he also cares about the appearance of the hamlet landscape. Activities such as flower roads, national flag roads, environmental sanitation, dredging canals, etc. are carried out regularly. He also personally takes care of the flower road near his house to set an example.

Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tan Tru Commune Nguyen Thi Phuc commented: "Mr. Nguyen Van Quyen always shows a high sense of responsibility in his work. With his closeness to the grassroots, he mobilizes and propagates to raise people's awareness in environmental protection, comply with the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws, contributing to the construction and completion of an advanced new rural commune"./.
