Although the journey of Borders, Seas, and Islands in my heart is not long, it has left many impressions in the hearts of every young person, especially thinking about patriotism and the responsibility of young people to the borders of the Fatherland, whether on sea or on land.

Each activity of the journey towards people in border and island areas is also an experience for young people to better understand the country's border areas.

Mr. NGO MINH HAI (Deputy Secretary of the City Youth Union, President of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union)

Journey 'Borders, seas, islands in my heart': Travel to understand

Regarding the reason for choosing Quang Tri as the destination, Doan Truong Quang, Permanent Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam Youth Union, said that this province has a border of hundreds of kilometers and a long coastline. But more importantly, this land has gone through many fierce wars, and is also the place that suffered the pain of being separated for more than twenty years from the 17th parallel.

During the two-day trip, 110 delegates including Youth Union - Association - Young Pioneers officials and many young artists of Ho Chi Minh City participated in meaningful activities.

At the special national relic site of Quang Tri Citadel - the place mentioned in association with the tragic 81-day and night war - you participated in the flag-raising ceremony "I love my Fatherland" in a very special space.

You visit Truong Son National Martyrs Cemetery and Road 9 National Martyrs Cemetery.

The delegation visited the officers and soldiers at the Border Guard Stations: Thuan, Thanh and Ba Tang (Huong Hoa District) and the Border Guard Station A Vao (Dak Rong District). Each destination helped the young people from the city named after Uncle Ho have a clearer understanding of the place where soldiers are on duty to guard the Fatherland's border.

In Gio Linh district, the program "Let's clean the sea" attracted many people to participate in Gio Hai commune. The program organized medical examinations and gave medicine to 500 people in difficult circumstances, launching activities to promote sea tourism in this district with a total budget of more than 400 million VND.

Spread love of homeland

The highlight of the trip was the flag-raising ceremony at the Vietnam-Laos border landmark and the art exchange program taking place right in Lia commune, a border commune.

The first flag salute at the border marker brought many different emotions, and it was also the moment when the hearts of each young person participating in the journey felt most clearly the sacred meaning of national sovereignty.

"Standing at the border marker, I feel more clearly the value of independence, the value of the blood and bones of our ancestors that were shed" - Hoang Phuc, a member of the delegation, shared.

On the last night, the journey ended with an art program in Lia commune, a place just a few hundred meters from the border, filled with love and affection that the Artist Volunteer Team (under the Vietnam Youth Union of Ho Chi Minh City) brought to serve the officers, soldiers and people in the border area of Huong Hoa district.

The exchange night ended with a tearful farewell between the children from the warm and sunny land of the South and the people of the Central border region.

Mr. Doan Truong Quang said that the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union hopes that through this journey, it will continue to spread love for the homeland, the country, and the attachment to the borders, the sea, and the islands in the hearts of young people. From gratitude for the many contributions and sacrifices of previous generations in exchange for peace and national independence, each young person in Ho Chi Minh City will choose for themselves a beautiful and useful way of living.

It is also the attachment of the youth and people of Ho Chi Minh City to the heroic land of Quang Tri. So that each young person will constantly be creative, dare to think, dare to do, serve the people, and join hands to build a rich and powerful Fatherland. "Hopefully, each member participating in this journey will be a propagandist, an ambassador to spread love for the homeland, love and cherish the value of peace" - Mr. Quang expressed.

Along with the series of activities that took place over the two days, on the last afternoon before ending the journey in Quang Tri, the delegation officially started building a charity house for a poor household in the border commune of Lia (Huong Hoa district). In particular, the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union supported 70 million VND to carry out the project.
