Returning after 10 years, "The Expendables 4" disappointed with its outdated script and failure to take full advantage of the A-list stars appearing in the film.

The battle of the excellent soldiers contains difficulties and many unexpected secrets behind.
The Expendables franchise had a huge appeal in the early 2010s with three blockbuster films, before being overshadowed by the wave of superhero movies.
The return of The Expendables 4 received high expectations from the audience, especially when the producer revealed that the film would also use the hit song Bigcityboi by rapper Binz.
Eye-catching action can't fill the void
Returning after 10 years, the content of The Expendables 4 is no different from old-style action movies. The film follows the motif of heroes confronting the villain who is behind all the plans to disrupt the world.
The rare highlight of the work is still the action scenes. The film is invested in staging scenes of shooting, explosions, racing, bare-handed fighting,...

In particular, The Expendables 4 impresses in close combat scenes, when Jason Statham's assassin character Lee Christmas uses a knife to confront Rahmat.
The two appeared evenly matched, continuously throwing powerful punches at each other.
These scenes are effective in showing the fighting spirit and desire to destroy the enemy, while increasing the brutality of the battle and creating a thrilling rhythm for the work.
The Expendables 4 uses humor and satire to add color to the action scenes. However, most of these elements are not enough to highlight the work.
Gathering a cast of prominent Hollywood stars such as Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Tony Jaa, Megan Fox,... but the character development lacks depth, making it impossible for the director to take full advantage of the talented actors he has on hand.

The film gives the feeling that Jason Statham is the only “soul” leading the entire work. The remaining characters appear vaguely, not providing much support for the main character’s journey to save the world.
Binz's rap Bigcityboi also only "contributed" when it appeared in the opening lines of the scene where Lee Christmas arrived in Thailand.
Worst 'Expendables' franchise?
Right after the first screenings, The Expendables 4 received a "storm" of criticism from the international press. Most loyal audiences of the franchise said that part 4 "lost its quality" compared to previous projects.
IGN commented: "The Expendables 4 is a pale imitation of its great predecessors, bringing many disappointments. Anyone who is no longer an audience for this all-star action series should consider themselves lucky.
The audience that stays deserves to see something better than the flimsy chase plot and clumsily staged battles of The Expendables 4."

Collider's review: "The film doesn't really know what to do with its talented cast. It eliminates many of its main actors and wastes many of its action stars, most notably Sylvester Stallone, who essentially has a cameo role and doesn't have a major role.
The 'jokes' the characters have with each other are terrible, making the film as a whole not really offer anything interesting."
Times Now News commented: “The patchy plot, lackluster performances and some poor special effects can give viewers a headache.”
Meanwhile, Bite Size Break criticized: "The film's script is silly, outdated, the humor is superficial, and Jason Statham's performance is lackluster, making it the weakest film in the series. An experience worth forgetting as soon as you step out of the theater."
The Expendables is an American action film series written by Sylvester Stallone. The three previous films were released in 2010, 2012 and 2014, grossing over $800 million worldwide.
