Duong Quoc Hoang (nickname Hoang Sao) is now in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), preparing to compete in the World 9-Ball Championship 2025 billiards tournament, taking place from July 21 to 26.
Before entering the most fierce matches of the year in the world billiards pool village, the top Vietnamese player shared emotionally: "In 2023, Hoang entered the quarterfinals of the World Pool Championship for the first time, after an unbelievable victory over the world's number 1 player that year - Shane Van Boening. That was a big milestone in Hoang's own career, giving Hoang a lot of motivation to continue to move forward to today. Hoang will prepare to continue fighting in this prestigious tournament, everything is still the same, extremely thirsty".

At the age of 38, Duong Quoc Hoang continues to set higher goals, including striving to qualify for international tournaments. His achievement of reaching the quarterfinals of the World 9-Ball Championship in 2023 surprised fans. But for Hoang Sao himself, it was a milestone to prove that he is capable of standing shoulder to shoulder with the world's top players.
Million dollar billiards tournament, gathering the world's elite
The 2025 World 9-Ball Championship brings together 128 of the world's best players. This is the most prestigious tournament of the year in the world of billiards pool, with a total prize value of up to 1 million USD (equivalent to 26.16 billion VND), the highest in the history of the tournament.
Accordingly, the tournament champion will pocket a prize of 250,000 USD (about 6.5 billion VND), the runner-up will receive 125,000 USD, and the rest will be divided according to the results of each round.
Hoang Sao reached the quarterfinals of the World Cup Pool Championship in 2023.

In addition to Duong Quoc Hoang, Vietnam billiards pool also has 4 other players participating in this year's tournament, including: Pham Phuong Nam, Nguyen Anh Tuan (nickname Tkon), Luong Duc Thien, Bui Truong An. This is considered the largest and highest quality force of Vietnamese billiards ever at a World 9-Ball Championship.
Other notable players expected to compete include current world champion Fedor Gorst (USA, currently leading the WNT world rankings), along with former champions Francisco Sanchez Ruiz (Spain), Shane Van Boening (USA) and Carlo Biado (Philippines). Audience favourites Joshua Filler (Germany), Ko Pin Yi (Taiwan), Jayson Shaw (UK) and Johann Chua (Philippines) are also on the field.
